According to IG, they have plans for touring for 2022 (starting in Feb) and 2023. And that´s gonna be the end probably.

It's not "according to IG", buthe extensive tour is already planned for 2022 (gigs postponed from 2020 and 2021). I will be very cautious whether to go and see them again, though. This may turn out a hard to watch experience, I fear... emoticon

No, it is according to latest video interview with IG (shared on THS) - he already talks about touring plans for year after 2022, which is 2023... emoticon

It would be cool for Deep Purple to make an awesome cover of the epic 17-minute track IN A GADDA DA VIDA by Iron Butterfly and make it a longer 20-minute rock attack.

I'm not convinced "Turning To Crime" is going to be a cover album...

I doubt it's a cover album as well.

Why?

It would seem like a waste of their talent.

If DP didn't have Morse or Airey...then maybe; but these two guys are loaded with musical ideas. Gillan with his lyrics, applies too.

One seller on eBay has Turning to crime as available from October as a covers album with this track listing. I hope it's a fake and we'll get some originals instead.

Volume 1
7 And 7 Is (Love)
Rockin’ Pneumonia And The Boogie Woogie Flu (Huey “Piano” Smith)
Oh Well (Fleetwood Mac)
Jenny Take A Ride! (Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels)
Watching The River Flow (Bob Dylan)
Let The Good Times Roll (Ray Charles & Quincy Jones)
Dixie Chicken (Little Fea)
Shapes Of Things (The Yardbirds)
The Battle Of New Orleans (Lonnie Donegan/Johnny Horton)
Lucifer (Bob Seger System)
White Room (Cream)
Caught In The Act (Medley)

If that's the tracklist, then this will be the first album from Purple that I have no interest in purchasing. Besides "White Room" and "Shapes of Things", I couldn't care less for those songs, and I don't care to hear Purple perform those two either. What a boring set of choices, much like doing "Roadhouse Blues" on INFINITE, but even more so. This is going to make RAPTURE look as good as IN ROCK or FIREBALL.

This is almost depressing. A new album featuring more covers than all the Mk 1 albums combined. Very sad.

Turning to crime meaning stealing other people’s songs?
I think these would be the songs of their youth and in that respect it could be interesting - however, only as long as they have worked out arrangements that turn them into DP songs and have something original to say about them - if it has to be along the lines of the very lackluster Roadhouse Blues, we can do without it.

rather have a DP covers album than another box of tat from Whitesnake!

Given Purple's song writing method - getting together and jamming - it would have been incredibly difficult in the pandemic to get together.

in that context - an album of covers is ok with me and better than no album at all.
