Re: Resonate

Album has aged surprisingly well. Hard to get tired of it. The Godzilla riffs of Let it Shine, Flow etc. It has swagger.

Or the bass line in Steady. Funky/groovy.

I have to say that despite the fact that Resonate is not my top 5 GH album, it's a damn solid LP with some very good playing, and singing! This could be Glenn's finest moment since BBC's debut album back in 2010. You also cannot respect the man for...

1) keeping up with the times - the album sounds very modern and fresh, you don't feel that it's a labour of love of a man who's 65!

2) still progressing and evolving as a musicians, lyricist, arranger, and producer!

3) being so innovative in respect to rock genre, still managing to surprise listeners

4) for being THE ONLY musician from the living Purple family that still manages to keep a very high profile artistically.

You're the man, Glenn!

Although I do think I prefer California Breed actually since it was unlike anything he's done before. He's at his best when he's collaborating with others.

Listened to it after a few months and not only it's still a great album but probably growing even more on me with time.

Agree. With the musicians he's touring now, he really should capture this couple of tours on a live album. Personally, I'd love a double: a Resonate set and a Purple set. Cd/dvd/bluray, of course.

Re: Resonate

I have been playing this a great deal recently and to my ears it is a superb album that deserved to be a hit. Heavy yes, but each song has something different to stop you getting bored. I usually tire of some of the samey Hughe's vocals but I think he is totally on top of his game and the over the top performance works on this.
If this was a BCC release it would have been a top ten album.
For me , this is probably the best Purple family release since the eighties.

Agree with you, and I'd add that production and mixing are also great, with a killer bass tone and the Hammond finally very prominent and "Lordish" (Lachey is actually a fabulous hammondist).
Your last statement got me thinking and, while I'm not sure if this is the best Purple family release since the eighties (Fused? Stranger in us all? Addiction, Flying Colors?), it's probably correct to say that Glenn has been the most vital and musically vibrant member of the family since the eighties. Who would have guessed it back then?

I know Glenn doesn't like it but for me his best ever solo release was From Now On. Great songs, in particular Why Don't You Stay & Homeland and great playing from Europe! killer version of Burn even if the drummer isn't as good as IP.
