HOBL/Nobody's Perfect
I just recently put both of these on (after not listening to them for awhile) and I have to say they are better than I remember.

Re:
I think they are both good, but both suffered from their predecessors - I mean, HOTBL followed-up a great album like Perfect Strangers, and we all hoped the second album would be even stronger, and NP...well, we all had played MIJ to death.

They could have put together a better live album from that tour.

Re: HOBL/Nobody's Perfect
HOBL deserves to be reissued on double vinyl, gatefold and in longer lenght or version. I think it's a good album.

Re:
HOBL was a "grower" for me.
Jan. 87: I thought it was OK.
Summer '87: I thought it was excellent.
Still love it.
Nobody's Perfect is a good live album. Too much old stuff though...
However, I can hear why they chose the performances they did. Little bits of magic shine through.

Re: HOBL/Nobody's Perfect
Gillan needed to be on his "A" game to do the new stuff justice . "unwritten law" was one track that suffered live especially. I have listened to a few boots from the tour recently and it was obvious Gillan struggled with the last screams of "CIT" but the middle one was strong , maybe he should have returned to the studio version to find a way of pulling back the middle section to allow him to use the strong middle scream at the end...if you know what I mean.

Re:
HOBL is an excellent album, very underrated.
NP suffers from too much editing.

Re: HOBL/Nobody's Perfect
Still love HOBL
NP obviously suffers from comparison to MIJ and i think its true to say that NONE of the band were as good post reunion as they had been in the 70s.
They did get close though on the TBRO tour ,apart from Gillan obviously.

HOBL is quite excellent. I've enjoyed it since it was released. NP? Meh. They should have used one or two real good concerts. No reason for the Frankenstein's monster of a live album that they came out with. Use a top show from the PS tour and one from the HOBL tour and get the best of each for the album. There are some good recordings out there where Gillan sounds pretty good. Take the PS tunes off of a a real good PS tour recording and the HOBL tunes off of one decent show from that tour. They were and are out there. Should have used them.
