Re: First New Track
Its another mid paced plodder ,not unpleasant but hardly DP either?
probably more suited to an Ian Gillan solo album?
Ian does a good job vocally, he still delivers a song really well in the studio.
Quite handy that Steve Morse doesnt even have to come into the studio as Bob can simply cut and paste any of his solos laid down over the years in DP

Re: First New Track
It was played on Planet rock yesterday and sounded crystal clear and not out of place amongst various classic tracks on the request show. Motorhead's we are the road crew was played right after and perhaps showed how "clean" the purple sound is right now compared to the drive and confidence of a band at their peak .

😁😁😁 LOL
It's a good tune I love it, but I agree with you about the same boring solo, I like everything, but when the guitar solo begins, I have to fast forward to the end of the guitar solo. 😁
Some people says it's copied from the guitar solo in Yes' "Starship Trooper".

Well, not really, it's the chord progression that is the same, not the actual solo; but then it's a fairly standard melodic progression in rock.

Re: First New Track
I have a feeling "Whoosh!" would hit #1 in Germany, Norway, Sweden, etc.

Purple have had four #1 albums in Sweden over the years. And none of those have been the big sellers; In Rock, Machine Head, Made in Japan and Perfect Strangers. So in reality they have had eight #1 albums..

Being #1 is like a publicity these days for Purple, it could sell a few thousand, but hey it's #1.
I remember buying "Deepest Purple" it read:
Highway Star-from the #1 chart album MACHINE HEAD
Fireball-from the #1 chart album FIREBALL
Today we could say... 😊
All I Got Is You-from the #1 album INFINITE
Vincent Price-from the #1 chart album NOW WHAT?!
....is better than.
Haunted-from the #85 chart album BANANAS
Rapture of the Deep-from the #81 chart album RAPTURE OF THE DEEP
Being #1 is still an honor, even if the album just sells 1,000 copies or less.
😋😁

Re:
Very much enjoy this.
Best vocals from Ian Gillan since many years. Impressing what he still can do.
Overall band sound is no doubt mk8. Not difficult to hear why they're so happy to work with Ezrin. Only a shame they didn't find him earlier than they did.
Having a little laugh at all these predictable comments on the guitar solo. I serioulsy think you guys better listen again. You lot are repeating yourselves to fit your own critisism. It's a thin line between repeating oneself and being recognizable. Steve Morse in Deep Purple is recognizable. But I serously do not think he is repeating himself here. Fair to say, he is not the volcano of creativity and surprises that RB used to be, but again who is?? I find this solo being undoubtly Steve Morse, nice and tasty, and filled with details that are anything but boring. Fits the song very well.
Rest of the band is superb as always. Can't wait for August 7th.
