Re: Brand new song coming
I can imagine that it's done in his basement or home-pub, where he lives. It's not a propoer studio, Pat Regan probably produced it, he does all the instrumentation (DAW) and plays the instruments sometimes. That's why it sounds like it does.
Shoe string budget and Blackmore can't be bothered - he's old and tired. The fire (understandably) left his belly a long time ago.
There is no way he will get Ezrin in or Shirley or whoever. Blackmore has never liked studios, has alsway done his albums in castles or wheverever. Now its in his living room (sic). I do a bit of home recording too and to be honest the lastest single isn't that much better. Have they even used PRO-TOOLS?
Black-Sheep of the family was produced for iTunes and earphones, if I play it through my sound system (with a sub-woofer) there is far too much bass... so the mix on that one is wobbly too (although I like it as a cover).
... we won't get what we want.

Re: Brand new song coming
Yes, it’s produced for earphones or pc speakers but that is kinda normal for a single only released in electronic format. It’s not a CD, not many at going to listen to it on high-end speakers.
And I suspect that if DP sell 6K copies of their much-anticipated CD in the UK, then we can assume 50-100K copies worldwide at most. Where does that leave, financially, a single with a cover of a cover?
I am pretty sure that, despite his dislike of studio work, if Ritchie senses there was potentially a decent return on the investment he would put more money into this.

Re:
Finally brought myself to listening to the BN version. (As I'm quite ignorant in terms of BN, I didn't know it.) And I think it's not too bad. Could be quite interesting to hear it with electric guitar and Ronnie singing, but I fear it'll be some computer work again.
Would like to hear these "new" songs (Black Sheep, Storm) being played live.

You are right, Blackmore never liked studios and as you say he never really needed one as he often recorded in castles etc. But I don't see why he couldn't do a real recording. You just need to record the band during a rehearsal.
It would sound so much better.. But I guess he wants to save a few quid by not having to pay the musicians etc. It certainly sounds like a typical cheap Pat Regan production and I can't for my life understand why Blackmore keep using him. We live in a world where kids in their bedrooms gets better results. But I guess Blackmore either doesn't care, wants to piss on his fans or his ears aren't what they used to be. (My bet is on all of the above...)

Re: Brand new song coming
Well, isn’t he the same Pat Regan who produced Stranger In Us All, that so many over here love precisely because of the guitar sound (which is an integral part of a production of a Rainbow album)?
I don’t like the computer parts, either, but we cannot say he’s a Bradford-level.
What I would love would be an inspired album, properly produced and with a superb band to push Ritchie - it would be amazing because the guitar in these songs still sounds really good and recognizable; imagine with new material and properly produced. But in the current market conditions that only reward long arena tours, can we blame a 74 year old if he switches gear and does what he deems feasible? I’ll still take one Rainbow cover or self-cover over five BN’s albums.

Yes he is the same, and IMO he couldn't even get SIUA to sound good. It was the weakest sounding Rainbow we ever got (until now)-despite strong material and good performances from Ritchie. The album sounds flat, thin and lifeless and without any power whatsoever. Would be interesting to hear the album completely remixed by another producer.

Re: Brand new song coming
I think RB and Pat just get along with each other very well and trust each other. Also, RB became very lazy and prefers to record at his home. He has done for the last 20 years basically. He's not used to go into a studio with a band anymore.

Re: Brand new song coming
This is nothing more than an overdub and possible just a re-amping of the original track from BN. If you play them side by side, they virtually exactly match. If this was re-recorded from scratch them it would not match like that.
Cheap and Cheerful, recorded in his basement home studio, and the vocals then added without them ever getting together at all. Its the modern way, but it's basically new vocals, overdubbed guitar, and remixed versions of the original tune. ...................
C = Cheap
R = Recording
A = Adding to
P = Pension Pot

Confirmed! Just tried it and the tracks match up too well in order for this to be a new recording... It's a shame, because the song itself is good. Should have been able to do so much more with it...
