The Battle Rages On remastered edition (issued by Sony Japan)
I'm not sure who was actually responsible for doing the Battle Rages on remaster over at Sony Japan in 2013, but I got a copy of it and I'm very disappointed.
Although the songs are louder and initially sound more full, there are a lot of problems that need to be worked out. The Battle Rages on (the song) sound nice and full but nearly two seconds of the classical intro is cut off. Lick it Up sounds better overall, but I'm not sure they got the drums right. Sounds a bit off. On Anya, some of Ritchie's higher notes are lost behind Gillan's singing. I'm very disappointed with the way the guitar solo was handled in Talk About Love. It is very weak, almost like it was disliked to the point of messing it up. Roger's bass really stands out on the record, and the drums almost get lost in the sound. The lower notes really come out on record. For example, you can really hear Jon and Roger on Ramshackle Man where the keyboard crunch sound is matching the guitar, yet the guitar and drums are pushed more to the background. Ramshackle Man sort of loses it's blues shuffle sound without the dominant guitar sound. The higher notes that Ritchie played also get lost at times. Solitaire sounds decent but then I noticed this time that the drums might now be too powerful. It's sad, I don't think this album was remastered right. It sounds like the volume was changed here and there, but somebody couldn't figure out how to give it a proper remaster. I'm very disappointed with this I will probably keep listening to the original version of the BRO. Sad, because I think great things could be done with this record if it was given a proper remaster.

Thanks for the warning. This album and Rainbows SIUA are in need of a good remastering. It's too bad Sony messed it up with TBRO.

I hadn't heard about this one.
I always wanted to hear Jon's solo on Solitaire after the fade.

Re: The Battle Rages On remastered edition (issued by Sony Japan)
Its the one in the clear slipcase and when you slide the jewel case in, the cover becomes 3D. It also comes with a catalog of all the Japanese DP cd releases (up to that point) and a guitar pick like the one Ritchie uses w/his signature embossed on it.
I wasn't going to get it at the time because it was so much more than the domestic version but once the guy opened it up and we a/b'd it, I couldn't believe the difference. Its beefier on the low-end without being woofy and mastered louder as well.

Re: The Battle Rages On remastered edition (issued by Sony Japan)
I have 4 copies and rank them:
Japan RCA 1993 - best one to my ears
U.K. RCA 1993 - close, but not as warm as the Japanese version.
.
.
U.S. Giant 1993 - generally too much mid-range. Blackmore's guitar (though not harsh) covers vocals, and even percussion a little too much.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Blu Ray - too loud, overly compressed. Nuff said.

Yep, that's the one I have and I have the same complaint about the U.S. Giant pressing. I don't even own that one anymore.
