Old CDs, remasters or (old) vinyls?
Hello everyone!
I was hoping I could get some input from fellow Purple fans:
For a while I have been agonizing over if I should get the 35th anniversary versions of Stormbringer and Come Taste the Band, buy the originals on vinyl second hand or just stick to my old CDs.
I am not a big fan of the albums but I have heard that the old CD versions do not do them justice. Is the sound on the original vinyl LPs and/or the old vinyls so much better than old CD versions that I should upgrade?

Among those choices, get the Anniversary editions, no question. BUT they did reissue those on vinyl so if you can find the Anniversary editions of those, get them! The Stormbringer reissue sounds incredible on vinyl. I'm still trying to track down the CTtB vinyl reissue.

I've got the 35th anniversary editions on CD. They both sound great, especially SB.

Definitely the 35th anniversary, and if you come across the old Lp's for a good price, just get them for the artwork.
I have all three versions, but only listen to the 35th editions.

Re: Old CDs, remasters or (old) vinyls?
In a way, there is an ambience to the original vinyls that cannot be beaten. On the other hand, they learned to do the thing right by the 2000s and hence, especially SB and CTTB (not so much on Burn, but they said it was not as cleanly recorded as the other two) really come alive on the new CDs. LDMAT and HM on the SB remaster - the greatest sound ever on a DP studio release?

Re: Old CDs, remasters or (old) vinyls?
Thanks for all the input, it's been quite helpful. I am now strongly leaning towards the 35th anniversary CDs.
If it weren't for the price tag on the 35th anniversary vinyls they would be the obvious choice. Buying them from amazon.co.uk would cost 80-100 euros, which seems daft since I already have the albums and don't really like them that much.
Cheers!
