Re: ?!
I think it'll be very different from _I_ .. More produced and built around more of the style from the reunion albums.

Re: ?!
Agreed it won't sound anything like _I_. But I don't see how it could have a resemblance t PS and HOBL either seeing that RB/JL aren't in the band. But maybe simpler riffs this time that might be more linked to those albums than _I_? Add Gillan and hopefully there will be the occasional HOBL flashback

Re: ?!
The feel in songs like Out of Hand and Weirdistan sounds more HOBL to me, than _I_ .. That eastern mystique and a bit of drama.

Re: ?!
I've now listened to it twice, and I love it. No ti to write an in depth review, but I really think it sounds the exact opposite to a bunch of old hard rockers gathering together to make another run at what they do for years. And that's already quite an a good start. Honestly, I feel it's very good, substantial, with a brilliant sound, good and strong vocals, good solos and imaginative tracks. Quite a few tracks sound like nothing Purple has recorded before...

Re: ?!
plus Bob Ezrin on all tracks.
It is on first spin on my CD.
Sound is magnificient, also arrangements and progressive complex sound of everything is really good. Gillan vocals are captured perfectly. Only thing on first listen is that Gillan sometimes seems to struggle to come up with vocals which suits progressive element of the music. Also I think Steve sounds and plays better than expected and plays indeed quite slow on couple of tracks. Don is master of everything. Ian Paice is solid and keeps everything rytmically very tight but would go on with more complex and powerful drum fills from time to time.
There is no obvious fillers.
I really like what I hear but proper review will be given after couple of listenings.
For me at first listen has very different feel from all four MK Morse albums. Definitely I don't find it as Purpendicular meets Abandon. Progresive feel of instrumental parts is evident and has a feel that the songs are sometimes cut too short where there was still space to develop or play longer.
And the choice of bonus track is completely unrelated to the general sound of the album.

Re: ?!
After first listenings - my jaw literraly dropped. The best Purple album since 1970's. And I mean it.
It's the most progressive, most experimental, courageous album for more than 30 years though it's not that much riff-oriented, so fans of Blackmore style might have mixed feelings. Fantastic production.
The star of the album: Don Airey.
The best songs after the first listenings:
A Simple Song
Blood from a Stone
Vincent Price
