Apart from that, thanks to all of you for your latest entries, now I really know what you like about Mk VIII.

So to speak, I was the one to ask a policeman whether those who want to turn left should queue on the lane for turning left. I wasn't the one to decide. emoticon

Don't worry 'bout that. I am exactly as popular here as I want to be. There are people who like my entries, there are people who don't, and that's just the way it goes, and that't perfectly fine.

SOAMFB: I stated what I like about Mk VIII. How much others focus on this matter is up to them.

What I like about MK8:

1. Two good albums!
2. They tour a lot!
3. They tour in countries where they've never been before (they're running out of countries...)
4. The band seem to enjoy themselves!
5. They gain new fans during each tour! They may loose some too, but my guess is that they gain more fans than they loose.
6. They're doing their best to please their older, nostalgic fans, but they also mix in some newer material whenever possible. Harder to do so at festival gigs where they share the stage with other bands, and the crowds expect the old classics, but they try.
7. The fans seem to enjoy themselves too.
8. What I like most about DP MK8 is that Morse doesen't try to be Blackmore and Airey doesen't try to be Lord. They copy the signature licks, but other than that they stand on their own. Of course they rely on much of the MKII material, to much some will say (me included), but to their defence: Gillan, Glover and Paice were there, recording it, writing it, playing it together with Lord and Blackmore. And another thing, since Blackmore left they have dug deep into the Purple fun bag, and played songs that Blackmore never would do live.
9. Great band! Simple as that!

If you compare the current Purple with what's going on on the hard rock stage today, they're still one of the best bands around. There are very few new bands on the hard rock scene that even comes close.

I really like most of the songs on Bananas and Rapture Of The Deep. There are maybe a few tracks that I don't dig, but the overall impression of the albums are good. Sun Goes Down is one of my favourite Purple songs. Great riff, and a typical Purple groove with a modern edge.

4:21 is not the answer for critics because everything around 4:21 (nothing impressive anyway, standard fill always played) gives critics even more to be critical about. Anyway, HS was painful to listen to, Gillan seems to be getting worse by the minute. It really is time to hang it up for him, the sooner the better then maybe we actually get some good Purple stuff from the past that is now being held back for garbage like this.
