Mojo's 'How to Buy' Deep Purple
The February 2010 issue of Mojo magazine has a "how to buy" guide on Deep Purple. I'm not sure of it is a good thing or not, but it is beased on readers' votes rather than editors' opinions. The short features on each album have been written by Paul Elliott.
Top 10:
1. In Rock
2. Machine Head
3. Burn
4. Made in Japan
5. Stormbringer
6. Fireball
7. Come Taste the Band
8. Shades of Deep Purple
9. WDWTWA
10. Perfect Strangers
The side article advices people to avoid HOBL, S&M and TBRO. None of the Morse-era albums are mentioned.

Well, it tells a lot about the validity of the Morse-era Purple, doesn't it.

...at least as far as those readers of Mojo whom voted are concerned about the validity of the Morse-era Purple, yeah, I'd have to agree it does.

I think it says more about the validity of Mojo readers

Re: Mojo's 'How to Buy' Deep Purple
Not Deep Purple related but the recent issue of Mojo has a nice, quite long Clapton article in it.
The most frank opinion is heard when he's asked about Zeppelin. He says he didn't like the band, above all because of the high-pitched vocals. He also says one of the reasons he left Cream was to make that sort of music go away. He added that he wanted everything to sound like the Band at the time!

If he thought Plant was high pitched, wonder what he thinks/thought of Gillan

That's a good question - though Gillan wasn't doing the high-pitch thing as much as Plant.

Yeah true...Gillan was only high pitched when he screamed otherwise he was more of a mid-register singer.
