 That's right MrSnip!
I still have a little loyalty and naivette in hopes of something spectacular coming from it. But I'm losing faith fast.

Re: What was the last album you bought? Give us a review!

Recent album purchases....I just received The Yes Album (The Rhino Remaster), Steely Dan - Katy Lied (remaster), and The Allman Brothers - Fillmore East Deluxe Edition.

As well, I downloaded two albums from MusicMatch for a very reasonable price, and copied them onto a single cd. Those were The Rod Stewart Album (I believe it may have been called "An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down" in England) and Rod Stewart - Gasoline Alley.

I've only had limited listening time to these, but I have to say, I love the old Rod Stewart stuff. Mostly using piano and acoustic guitars, I believe Ron Woods plays on both, they create a great rocking folksy, bluesy sound that compliments Stewart's voice perfectly. I can't yet do a song-by-song, but both of these albums are highly recommended.

I have listened to the remastered Yes Album, and while I think the contents of this album are well known, and just classic stuff, the remaster adds another dimension to this with absolutely crystal clear sound, and bonus material in form of additional versions of Your Move (Single version), Starship Trooper (single version), and The Clap (studio version).

I haven't yet listened to Katy Lied, or the Allmans Brothers, I'll try to post something on these later.

back on topic... I recently got a copy of Velvet Revolver. This band is essentially Guns'n'Roses with the guy from Stone Temple Pilots on vocals.

The album is heavy handed on the production and the vocals are too synthetic but overall this album really rocks. I particularly like the slower songs and the way they contrast with the faster heavier material. I also hear a lot of GnR styling to this album but what do you expect with Slash on guitar emoticon

Don't bother with track 3 though... it's like finger nails on scraping chalkboard to my ears (I skip this track every time I listen to the album now).

I also just got The Darkenss release. It took about 6 times through for me to get use to the singer but now that I have I'm enjoying this release quite a bit.

Well, when I was at the airport in Israel, I found the remastered Fragile. It was a good price and it was next on my list... so that's the last album I bought emoticon

I'm not very good at giving detailed reviews, and I did know quite a few songs from the "Classic Yes" collection I have (emoticon). But it's still surprisingly good! South Side of the Sky is just outstanding, We Have Heaven is a wonderful psychedelic little thing, and Heart of the Sunrise is one of my YES favorites, so I'm happy!

I think I slightly prefer the long epic songs though... the longer and dreamier, the better... So if there's one small thing about Fragile that I can complain about is the short fragmented songs. I still love it though!

Just gonna bring this back up to the top, as it's getting crushed by all the archive reviews! emoticon

In Germany I bought King Crimson's Discipline and it's....erm.....crap.

It might have sounded new and fresh at the time but today it sounds unspeakably cheesey and horribly dated, which is a bit of a shock because KC's classic albums are renowned for being timeless. The guitar playing by both Belew and Fripp is unimpressive and Bruford sounds like a drum machine.

Strong recommendation to avoid.
