Ian Gillan - Cherkazoo and Other Stories

I ordered this one yesterday and it's apparently some collection of songs from 73-76. I've never heard of any of the tracks and now I just wonder if there's anyone in here that owns a copy of this.

It's my favourite Gillan solo album.

Like you said, it's a collection of sorts. The Cherkazoo songs are very different to everything else IG has done and are nice as such.

For me, the best tracks are the awesome cover of Trying To Get To You and the Driving Me... takes.

I've never heard the album. The impression(s) I've always gotten is that the album is somewhat along the lines of Glover's "Butterfly Ball + Grasshopper's Feast" project. Didn't Glover also do some of the studio work - from both sides of the desk - with/for Gillan regarding this project?

Gurra, don't get your expectations too high. It's a varied pack and like Ed pinpointed above, the Cherkazoo tracks have (they're only a part of the album) this children's/fantasy genre thing about it.

It's fully possible that you don't like it. It's touch and go with that kind of untypical material. I can guarantee that you like Trying To Get To You. IG sounds amazing on it!

Well, Happy Easter, guys! I'm off to the local!

Yes he produced some songs and played on some too...

Got some great tracks on here. Driving Me Wild take 2 is excellent, and the definitive version of You Make Me Feel So Good is also to be found. Check out that scream. Simply fabulous.

The original of Monster in Paradise is also on here too, and Music in my Head is arguably the most un-Gillan track he ever recorded. Sounds like it should have been in a 70s low-budget movie about hand-gliding.

Never did like Hogwash though. A-ha!

Not really the original. It's an old Episode Six song...

I will have to argue the case over this one. I thought it was just a Gillan/Glover penned demo from the early 70s that the band Hardstuff went on to record for their album Bulletproof.
