Re: IAN GILLAN MAKES ME SICK...

At least Gillan allowed his hair to grow out a bit. He no longers looks like the Florida retiree headed for the golf course.

I never knew he liked Buffalo, NY that much. I guess someone has to.

I'm also dissapointed with the idea of re-recording the old tracks. It seems pointless and I can't really think of any reason besides carrying on with the nostalgia thing. Well, I hope it's at least well performed and well produced but I already feel nausea when I see SOTW and Speed King on the list emoticon It's a bit sad. Is he really out of any new ideas?!

Well, Private, and to anyone else who's expressed this sentiment - after about 40 years as a performing artist wouldn't a reasonable person accept that the well of creativity just may have been dipped into until the level is pretty low?

We should be glad that Gillian is still alive unlike Tommy Bowlin.

To me Deep Purple are rock legends and it is sad that their new material does not get the air play that it deserves.

If they are playing the oldies instad of Purpendilicular that is because there is more of a demand for the old.

Bannanas was in a way a step backwards from Purpendicular.

Of the DP fans at work I'm in the minority liking the newer stuff.

But I don't think to many people are giving the new stuff a chance.

I loaned Purpendicular to a co-worker and he was just like Blackmore is not on it and returned it.

I don't agree. If he still wants to be an active musicians he should try harder. If you are born an artist you stay an artist entire life. All the great musicians never lost their talent. If we say so much about how great DP and Gillan are, he should try much harder than this!

PLUS I don't think that the majority of fans want only old stuff. At least half of us wants the Morse-era songs, including me. I don't want the billionth versions of BN or SKOW. It's part of their history, fine but it's the past and now it's the present. They still make some good music. They're simply not brave enough to present it on a wider extent, hence weak reviews in the press, and - believe it or not - it does matter to them coz it all means a lot when we thing of the finances of the band.

It's not good being a minimalist and say ' we should be happy he's still hanging around'. Check out Lord, Hughes, Blackmore - they all fight, they all started something new and aren't afraid of doing it!

Re: IAN GILLAN MAKES ME SICK...

Personally I think it´s highly exciting to finally hear him singing stuff like Men Of War, Trashed or Bluesy Blue Sea again which he hasn´t song in 20+ years.

Yes he does include Deep Purple songs but except Smoke On The Water no one has heard him doing them in the studio since they were first done, this is different than live.

And with overall the special guests and all and not to forget that the Solo, Black Sabbath, Episode Six and other stuff, this should be really interesting for people who know his solo and outside DP career.

And I think most of those who hate him for rerecording now, either haven´t heard Dreamcatcher or hated it, would you prefer another album like this, I certainly would, but if you don´t like his solo style anyway why aren´t you happy he records stuff you´re sure about you like?
