Definitely not an avoid album. There are some moments when it gets tedious and downright annoying, the screaming, the cliched riffs. But when it's going good, it is damn good. Songs like Trash, Digital !@#$ and Zero the Hero make it worth getting.

Maybe it was a bizarre joke.
Maybe it was done on purpose (to make the early Sabbath albums sound superior)
In any case it doesn't sound like a professional album. I've heard the silly story about Geezer tampering with the mixes or record with a broken speaker, but it's actually not the bass that sounds terrible -it's the guitar that is far too muddy. It isn't heavy at all!
and the drums are downright laughable on some tracks.

the lineup had potential, and Gillan's performance is great. but the album is disappointing even for an average metal band.

Songwise it doesn't get much better. A couple of decent tracks but no real standout classics. it's no surprise that Sabbath fans and people in general don't like the album at all. In fact people usually don't rate this album at all, so maybe we should be happy that they at least mentioned it.

The only problems with this Gem is poor production and mix. I was expecting much better sound wise. I think if Appice was on drums it would have been even better, Ward is very ordinary on the skins and to me is WAY over rated!

I suppose you believe Coverdale himself could have done better in the singer spot with the material on that album....yeah right!!!!!!
It's no big deal John we just don't see eye to eye in the area of vocals.
I have to say that some of you guys must be joking about an album that it would seem you don't have any genuine retrospect for, afterall, did any of you actually hit the record shop on Halloween day 1983 when it came out?
It helps to have a fresh perspective of a record before you go on about it more than 20 years later.

Btw,isn't it cost,not "costs"?
I believe the plural for that word is kept in singular form.

I read that it was Iommi that had a blown piece of equipment throughout the recording of Born Again and didn't know it.

I'm sure if someone could gather up the original multi track media from the recording sessions they could do a great job of re-mixing this album. But it's not worth doing in terms of profit so it won't get done.

Still, it's a good, very heavy, hard rock album.

Gillan has mentioned owning the original master tape himself.
Some can't tell any difference, but I instantly noticed a major improvement on the remastered cd,a big difference.

No, I think Coverdale would have been equally unsuited to Sabbath as Gillan.

No, I heard most of the tracks on the Friday Rock Show and made my own mind up.

I bought Born Again about a year ago. I've been a Gillan and Purple fan for more than 20 years. I've got most of the Sabbath albums (in order to make a comparison). I think that gives me enough of a "perspective" to have an opinion.

Not true actually. I read the piece in Classic Rock and felt it might be of interest to the forum. I don't try and antagonise people here as a rule.

I don't believe Iommi didn't know he had a blown speaker, unless he was using so many stacks of speaker cabinets he couldn't keep track. Normally if there's something wrong with your rig you know it right away. It's so annoying and disconcerting, you have to fix it.
