I always thought at the time 'Bluesy Blue sea' was the nearest thing Gillan had done to what a reformed Mk 2 Deep Purple may have come up with in 1982; i could just imagine RB knocking out that riff (then again gers was nearly a Blackmore clone!)

Roy,if you listen closely you will hear that it's actually structured somewhat like Perfect Strangers, some chords are identical.

That statement makes practicalle 1/10th of all songs structured somewhat identically.

Jaysus emoticon for one horrible minute there I thought you were referring to a certain song on Difficult To Cure and was winding myself up for a long debate emoticon

OK I'll bite on this one. Which songs/riffs/solos/licks from HOBL were flat out (by this I would also assume you mean directly) copied from Gillans Catalogue?
Let me think about this for a bit.
Hard Lovin Woman (riff=Space Truckin sideways)
Unwritten Law (Stranded with Chasing Shadows drumming)
Spanish Archer (don't know of any copying there)
Strange Ways (another play on Stranded)
Mad Dog (just basic Spotlight Kid style riffing)
