Re: Gillan´s Inn Update
...interesting...I wonder if at any time did Deep Purple MkVI - Gillan, Glover, Lord, Paice + Satriani - spend any time recording together for this project?
Ah, I can still wish, can't I?

Re: Gillan´s Inn Update
As Gillan said everyone will be featured on Smoke On The Water so it´s possible that he´ll be on another track as well.
I´m curious what Loving On Borrowed Time will sound like, so far I see no female singer credited, but I´m sure there has to be one or a couple(I even hope so).
Be assured that it won´t be Sinead O´Connor.(though I admit that I liked her as backing vocalist on Peter Gabriel´s "Us" )

Re: Gillan´s Inn Update
Ian Gillan sure seems excited by this project,
and it is nice that we will be kept up to date
with the comings and goings as this project comes to fruition
( assuming that Steve can keep up with it all, a gap year
seems to have turned into a life of constant bedlam
in the nicest possible way ). I was already looking forward to this,
as always when a purple related release is brewing,
but now the suspense is immense.
Saving the pennies already for when this is taken on the road
and even more sure that will happen now, if Ian is this excited
he will not be able to resist doing so. Bring it on.

Re: Gillan´s Inn Update
I just read the "Studio Journal" thats linked from the Highway Star. The engineer drops a pretty strong hint that Billy Sheehan played some bass for Smoke on the Water.
Thursday, 2-17-05
Another monster day as we finished off the lead vocal recording. There is something truly amazing about Ian's voice, which is something countless people and journalists have said over and over, but to be getting it in such an intimate setting, and often solo-ed loud through the monitors, is like looking at a diamond through one of those little lenses a jewler stickes in his eye. Forty years of singing, touring, and a fair share of cigarettes later, Ian's voice is as rich and resonant and high and screaming as ever. His range alone is enough to make your jaw drop, but the stylings that he can switch between, from word to word, is unreal. Go back and listen to Speed King and you'll know what I mean, then, when this record comes out, listen again. Holy !@#$! We also recorded congas today, as well as a local bass legend (do the math) on the "Smoke on the Water." This version is already becoming a monster track. In my humble opinion, it's going to out-do the original version. Now that has got to be one of the most amazing things to be involved in. This is the rock guitar song.
Not many "bass legends" to chose from out of Buffalo!
