Re: BORN that sound AGAIN!
Yea I thought of It's Alive too.
I remember going to the local Tower on Halloween and buying it,the kids at my girlfriends house thought it was a prop of some sort when I came through the door with it,no one that layed eyes on it that night even thought twice about it being anything serious to me,I cranked that album what seemed like everyday until
Perfect Strangers came out.
When I went to London it seemd like it was
just like any other album out, here it was
looked upon as some sort of joke.

Re: BORN that sound AGAIN!
Do NOT judge an album by its COVER. Have you not heard that one? When I use to play that record it was best through my P.A. It would seem that the album was mixed with what could be considered too much bass. However, if you use PA HORNS and Tweeters and crank that !@#$, you got yourself one of the most AMAZING mixes ever. Most people do NOT have P.A. Speakers at home so they will never quite realize the sound that I had the chance to enjoy, when I was young.

Re: BORN that sound AGAIN!
I don't think anyone here has judged the album by it's cover, Satch. We're just discussing the cover art as a bit of a digression.
True enough about using whatever equalization tools one might have available to them at home to maximize the listening process, and also true enough that the vast majority of people probably don't have pa systems to listen to music through at home. Ya just gotta make do with what ya gots.
There's little doubt that "Born Again" could definitely benefit from a "sonic makeover" - by the right "makeover artist", of course. Who knows, maybe the cost of having it done could be made up more than 2 or 3 times over with new sales of a better sounding product.

Re: BORN that sound AGAIN!
My equipment truly works wonders,
my buddies recording studio has all the latest digital toys and I'll have to crank it up over there one of these days.
I can take the worst recordings and make them sound fabulous.
One band that has to be heard on studio equipment to be believed is Pink Floyd
man they were meant to be opened up for a
more convincing cosmic sound.

Re: BORN that sound AGAIN!
Yeah, "Born Again" does sound pretty bad "production wise" doesn't it? This was definately a "difficult period" for Sabbath with the "Dio period" ending on "bad terms" and all. Overall though, I think Gillan handled it "pretty well" and showed he was a "damn fine" singer.
I "think" that's a "pretty convincing" MrEd45 "look a like" post.

Re: BORN that sound AGAIN!
"Hot Line" would clip the amp on my stereo at the beginning when the drums came in. Much of the album was hard on speakers when cranked up. The newer "Mosfet" amps (I believe that is the correct spelling.) prevent clipping with their extra head-room.
Either way, the first time I played the album at full blast, the popping of my speakers was very disconcerting.

Smoking may be bad for you, but it doesn't bother me. And you know I'll gladly do whatever reasonable favor is required for you, my Orkneyian friend.

Re: BORN that sound AGAIN!
The album liner notes say Born Again was produced by Black Sabbath and Robin Black, and engineered by Robin Black and assistant engineer Steve Chase.
I dont think I'am familiar with either Robin Black or Steve Chase. Does anybody know anything about these guys? I wonder what projects they might have worked on before or after Born Again?
