Re: Best Ian Gillan solo album?
My suggested list - as far as order of acquisition/preference - would pretty much echo BlueTuna's + MicStand's.

Re: Best Ian Gillan solo album?
Of the few Gillan solo albums I've got I would recommend Cherkazoo And Other Stories.

Re: Best Ian Gillan solo album?
Hmm, Mr. U, Toolbox, Dreamcatcher and maybe 2X Trouble look to be the favs. I was gonna ask the same question, but with a differnt emphasis. I'm not really interested in fusion or pop.
Which one has the most/best SCREAMING ROCK N ROLL (ala Speed King or '69) on it?

Re: Best Ian Gillan solo album?
There is fusion on
CIT
CAT
and a little bit on Scarabus
but no pop whatsoever anywhere.
For sheer power vocals
Toolbox
Mr.Universe
Magic
in that order
but the rest are olso laced with it.
(IMHO)

Re: Best Ian Gillan solo album?
Future Shock, Mr. Universe, Glory Road, Magic and Double Trouble in that order IMHO.
All are awesome and feature a kicking band and fine Gillan vocals. And if you love Gillan screams there are plenty here!
Toolbox never did it for me, Gillan is trying his hardest but the band just doesn't sound right to me. Maybe it was because there wasn't a Colin Towns type keyboardist/arranger to lift it above just 'normal' hard rock.

Re: Best Ian Gillan solo album?
I have decided on Toolbox but will probably get a Gillan CD everytime I decide to widen my collection. Thanks everyone!

Toolbox. Some fantastic stuff (Fighting Man is perhaps the ultimate Gillan track) on the early Gillan albums but a lot of awful material too.
And no one gets on his back!?!Am I the only one not allowed to say no too nice things about Gillan(The band, not the man)?
