"Playground".... a good Mk 1 Instrumental?

No solo virtuosity, but for a piece that grooves and sits in the pocket quite nicely, I think it's a great song.

I especially like the organ line when it comes to the refrains at 1m:22s and 2m:27s on the CD. Simple as it rides over those 4 chord changes, yet very melodic and sweet to listen to. So "Jon Lord" in its simplicity, yet intriguing in its harmonic complexity.

The more I listen to this song, the more I don't understand why it wasn't put on the original release of Taliesyn.

I agree with ya totally, John! A great little song, and I personally wouldn't have minded at all had it replaced "Listen, Learn, Read on" as a track on "TBOT". Or maybe both "Playground" + "Oh No No No" to replace "River Deep, Mountain High".
Damn shame Purple either couldn't finish or weren't satisfied with either "Lay Lady Lay" or "Glory Road"...if either had been completed in time to be included on the album, I bet either would've been a welcome addition, especially given Evans' talent for ballad singing, I'm willing to bet Purple's version of "Lay Lady Lay" would've killed!

Great track and I love RB's riffing on this.
