Re: Rod or Joe

JLT has had much more time to develop his skills,I'll take Rod's short body of work anyday, and that says alot for him.
...and he's the better ballad singer imho.

Re: Rod or Joe

I like JLT (his solo albums, his work with Rainbow, malmsteen AND dP)...but the three first dP albums are so fantastic that I have to chose Rod.Plus Captain Beyond was an amazing band too.
Then again, he should get a minus for his bogus, but I think he already got one on his bank account emoticon

Hello

I think that they too much different to be compared ! Joe is a hard/heavy oriented singer and has it´s advantages over Rod, Joe reaches more high notes ( ok doesen´t matter if you like it or not ! emoticon the fact is that he does ) but Rod has a more deep and soul-ish voice ! More 50´s pop/rock/r´n´b ballads ! i prefer Rod to Joe , but i like them both and i think it´s unfair to state that one is better than the other ... they are just very different to be compared ! emoticon

Re: Rod or Joe

I think that JLT is the better rock singer, while Rod is probably a better classical singer.

I think that they are both good singers. The only reason that JLT gets slagged here is because he replaced Gillan. Had they brought in Howe or JJ, I would bet that either one would be getting the same treatment as Joe. About the only one that they could have brought in that wouldn't get the Bronx Cheer is Paul Rogers. A great singer whose song writing skills are questionable. He does write some good lyrics, but he runs out of ideas pretty quickly and then gets a bit cheesey.

Either way, Rod with the better resonance and tone for classical and JLT with some more edge and range for rock and roll.

Sure....but this most definitely is. Let's see...a talented, albeit ballad oriented singer versus a squealing little morphodite from Hackensack...yup, certainly no answer is REALLY required, at least on my part. emoticon

emoticon Isn't Joe the guy that says 'I'm not gonna sing anyone else's drivvel' on that doco 'Heavy Metal Pioneers'? That should disqualify him from any serious discussion! Rod will always have a special place in my heart as 'Kentucky Woman' was the first Purple song i heard (yeah, yeah i know it's not a ballad!)and 'Taliesyn' one of the first lps i ever bought.
And speaking of the afore mentioned doco the guy who asked about California Jam should check it out as there's some handy footage of the incident.
