Welcome DP backing singer: Jon Lord!! (Applause coming up...)

This is inspired from Milan's great take on the mk III/IV duo vocal threads.

Thing is, my ears ain't made for sorting out vocals too well, and I have a hard time pointing at Lords contributions as a back up singer.

I would appreciate very much if anyone could help me out here. I'm not asking for more than a complete list on every recorded aah Lord ever did in his purple days. emoticon

Is that possible?

Cheers Atle!

I´d love to see the same thing done for the first three albums as this was the only time except Mark III/Mark IV were someone else but the lead singer sung something, even if it just were distant backing vocals obviously.

But I really couldn´t tell Simper´s and Lord´s singing voices.

Would be interesting to know where and when Lord can be heard on record(even if not clearly).

I don´t think that neither when Turner fronted DP nor ever with Gillan someone but him sung any vocals on record(except on Haunted and that´s quite obvious).

Yeah, obviously that wasn't Lord. He had quit at the time emoticon

Otherwise I believe you're right about mks Gillan/Turner. Except Roger did some odd aarghs live with mk VII, didn't he? Well, less interesting.
Do we need to turn to Nigel again, or is anyone else able to help us out with the Lord thing?

Roger and Steve used to(and still) do the "Backstreet Dolls" verse in SIFLS and trade the chorus of IGYN with Gillan.

(+ Roger used a "sing" a few "come on"s on Space Truckin´ in the eighties).

In the remastered WDWTWA booklet Roger says that he and Jon sang the outro of Woman From Tokyo.

I could be wrong, but I believe Roger did backing vocals on Super Trooper.
If memory serves me correctly, there are several voices at one point in April, ooohs and aaahs.
Haven't listened to it in ages though.

Jon sang chours on Hush. You can see him singing it on the live video in 1968 from Hefner's pad. Like groovy cool man. Hey Scob, what a Scobby snack?

Yes there are, but that I´ve always been under the impression that it´s a choir, but could be wrong with that.

I had a hard enough time trying to convince friends that it´s only Gillan on Our Lady and not a choir.emoticon

I haven't listened to this in over ten years but I'm sure Jon sings The Bird has Flown off of Deep Purple(?). Not the whole song but the "The bird has flown, some place all alone" part.
