Are you thinking of the time Ritchie offered Paicey a gig in his band that didn't exist? I can't recall Evans ever making such a claim.
Technically, Rod didn't answer the advert but got wind of Purple's auditions from Mick Angus (who thought he'd as good as got the job).

Re: The Founding Members...
I'd say that for the current line-up Gillan & Morse are the founders...

Was that the time Ritchie approached Paice
on the boat to Germany?

But they were still Roundabout and never played together as such. There were no full rehearsals before they moved into Deeves Hall - other than Blackmore and Lord writing together - just a few meetings at flats and in pubs. For whatever reason, Curtiss didn't make it to Deeves Hall, just the other three (and later, Nick), whereupon the management placed the advert for a lead vocalist.

Yup, I realize that. I was just trying to use the word "rawest" like someone might present a lump of coal and call it a diamond in it's(the diamond's)rawest form, was all. Was I trying for an analogy or a metaphor? I ALWAYS mix those two up!
I didn't mean to imply they'd done any sort of actual work together. Just speculating on a "paper lineup", so to say.
Interesting little factoid about the Bodast thing, too. I've heard of that before (the Blackmore "involvement"), but I can't recall exactly where. Perhaps the "Close To The Edge" band biography of Yes by Chris Welch??

Re: The Founding Members...
The "founderlings"sounds like a name for a band. But its really not that original,HEY NOW!"The Originals"thats more like it,but what if they split up there could'nt be a "New Originals".Anyway if they covered that old Bing Crosby song Deep Purple I would buy it!Hope this makes sense in a roundabout sort of way,its the music that matters not who's in the band.
