Re: Mark 1

Deep Purple was the first dP I was exposed to. And look where it got me emoticon

It's *really* good, one of my favorites!!

By the way, has anyone seen the b3burner lately? (It's a mk1 topic & I kinda miss him here)

Maybe it's time for another "Rating the Mks" topic? emoticon
Anyway, I'd go with MkII(a+b);MkVI;MkI + MkIII as my top 4.

Can't find a fourth that I actually prefere as being the Purple style, the only reason I like mk VII is cause of the Gillan factor,
without him around I wouldn't have much interest.

That's interesting...I was afraid I'd start to feel the same way when Lord's retirement was announced. Happily, "Bananas" was quite a pleasant surprise.

Ed, give me an honest review. Does Bananas have any overall qualities that make it in any way better than CTTB, WDWTWA, or HOBL. If not, I am still wondering if it is worth making any special effort to acquire. I was very disappointed in Abandon, not impressed that much with Perpendicular and so if you or Fat Larry want to review it for me I would be delighted to have some insight from the outside. emoticon

I personally would rate it over "Come Taste The Band" (no surprise for long term forum members with THAT, I'm sure! emoticon ), but definitely NOT over "Who Do We Think We Are?". Maybe on a par with "House of Blue Light". It's perhaps my favorite of the "Morse era" releases. I differ from most, as I wasn't all THAT impressed with "Purpendicular" - not bad, but certainly not a Deep Purple "classic" - at least to these ears. I favored "Abandon" over it - definitely putting me in a minority...but that's o.k. - a lot of trailblazers + trend setters are regarded as "kooks"! emoticon / emoticon

That's fine, but when you're nothing but a "kook" it doesn't sound too good emoticon

I love the third album. To me, its as good as anything they've ever recorded. Always been one of my faves.
