Were DP the "eligible bachelors", or were they merely there to provide the background music for the show? In which case, that must have been a real slap in the face to Herb Alpert, who's "Dating Game" theme, among others, helped put him on the map. nondisclosed_email@example.com (B3Burner)Mon, 01 Dec 2003 18:49:25 +0000 Re: "The ABC Shopping Centre"?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p159624,from=rss#post159624https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p159624,from=rss#post159624One of my ultimate goal's in collecting Purple footage is their appearance on The Dating Game,I do have pictures of it but I'm told by Simon Robinson that the research has been done and the tapes appear to have been lost. The photo's remain intact though and that gives me hope. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Gillans micstand)Mon, 01 Dec 2003 07:30:27 +0000 Re: "The ABC Shopping Centre"?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p159623,from=rss#post159623https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p159623,from=rss#post159623Or maybe it was such a bad show in a bad place and that's why Evans got kicked out... I noticed this for awhile, but never thought to ask....why? First off, I've been to Evansville once in my life, and while it's not as "slow" and "backwoods" as Andy Griffith's Mayberry, it certainly is no urban cultural mecca, and that's based on my personal observations as of 1996. I can only imagine it was even less progressive back in 1968. Where did they find this place? Why, where, and how do you play psychedelic rock music in a shopping center? The parking lot? In the corridor halfway between McDonalds and JC Penny's? I shake my head on this one folks. What an interesting time it must have been to be a Hoosier in the south part of Indiana. Imagine being able to tell your grandkids that you saw an up and coming rockband, while doing your Christmas shopping? What must have been really interesting was to have seen passer-bys' reactions to the music. British rock was not exactly a Hoosier staple in the late 60's! Anyone else, can you shed light on this obscure event? Maybe they were attracted to Evansville because they couldn't find Blackmoresville or Simpersville. Who knows?nondisclosed_email@example.com (B3Burner)Sun, 30 Nov 2003 23:53:29 +0000
