 To answer the thread/topic's question-title, yes, I would agree a "nice" version - though nearly totally unnecessary, in my opinion. Very little re-arrangement and I could swear Lord's keyboard solo is just "pasted on" to the KS version.
 As for the earlier versions of the song - the original, so to say, by BJR - they lacked that same Lord solo and Blackmore's tasteful little riffing throughout them, both factors which made Purple's cover superior to them.
