Anyone into Captain Beyond?
Rod Evans redeemed himself with this band. Total riff rock.
Sufficently Breathless, Dancing Madly Backwards and Dawn Explosion are very good albums.

Re: Anyone into Captain Beyond?
I love the band. Got three of their albums. That first with Evans is still the best one I reckon! Great heavy psychedelia. Excellent stuff. His voice was perfectly suited to this kind of thing!

Who is the vocalist after Evans? Why did Rod leave anyway?

Re: Anyone into Captain Beyond?
Take a look at Hartmut Kreckel´s Captain Beyond page at http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/aprilskies/65/
where is a lot of information around the CB band, but also a lot of info and pics about Rod´s 1980 episode with the "new" Deep Purple band.
The best page I´ve ever seen!

I've got the first album. It's great psychedelic rock.

From the Captain Beyoned web site quoted by Hase:
Lee Dorman: "... Rod walked out of the studio midway through the recording of "Sufficiently Breathless", I really don´t know the reasons why, his wife was making pressure or something and he felt disgusted with the management situation, but he never really talked about it. He finished the album and that was it... not too long ago we found out that Polydor Japan was releasing our records and after a while we got the royalties cheques... so we had to put Rod´s share on hold, as nobody could find him. I contacted him via his manager and forwarded my number to him, saying please call back... never heared of him. He seems to live in the San Francisco area now and I haven´t seen him since he left the band, same goes for the other band members, noone has talked to Rod ever since he left... We had some rough times together, he was a great guy, I liked him."
His replacement was Willy Daffern, no slouch himself! But the Evans albums were the best, both vocally and creatively!

Re: Anyone into Captain Beyond?
Nothing more to say, Rahul. Captain's First is one of my Top 10 ever albums. Pity they did not reach for something more...

Re: Anyone into Captain Beyond?
Pretty sure Rod is in the Sacramento area
not San Fran.
Sufficiently Breathless wasn't too bad
but it was the end.
Question everybody
What member's of Iron Butterfly were in Captain Beyond?
Does anyone have the original vinyl version
of the first album, with the 3D cover?
What a gem it is

Re: Anyone into Captain Beyond?
CB is highly underrated! The first album is a gem(even without the 3-d cover ).
From what I read on the link provided above(thanks for that)Rod seems to me like a very odd person.
They definitly add something there with the two first albums(I've never heard the 3rd).
There's also a recent Finnish tribute to Capt Beyond, w/excellent bands such as The Quill, Five Fifteen, Lotus,...proving Capt Beyond has been a major influence to many musicians.

Re: Anyone into Captain Beyond?
There is a nice bootleg from a CB's show in Texas in 1972.
