Re: your pride and joy
I've got 'Shades' and 'The Book of Taliesin' both on the Tetragrammaton label.
I also have 'Singles A's and B's', the first one, on purple vynil.
I don't really know if they're rare or valuable though. Any ideas anyone?

Depending on the condition... the first three albums on the Tet label, are worth $25.00 each, last time I checked, could be higher now... The Singles A's and B's on Purple vinyl... I suppose it's worth a little more, but not much... although it is a nice one, cover and all imo.
It may please some to know, that contrary to belief these days, vinyl is going up, not down, as people tend to think.

Re: your pride and joy
Rarities ... hm ... backstage in Dortmund 1994 Joe Satriani gave me a plectrum with "Deep Purple" in the TBRO style printed on one side (purple print on white background) and "Joe Satriani" printed on the other side. Might this count as a rarity ?
And for vinyl ... I don't know what really counts as a rarity, perhaps some titles from the following ...
- nino tempo / april stevens - deep purple
- hell preachers inc. - the supreme psychedelic underground (I assume there are NO DP members playing on that)
And DP vinyl bootlegs (those which I consider to be the rarest, all mint or very good condition):
- paradiso amsterdam (24.8.69)
- sonic zoom (aachen 1970)
- bedlam in a bed-sit (tokyo 25.06.73)
- glutton for punishment (same show)
- gillan / glover's last (osaka 29.06.73)
- perks & tit (san diego 09.04.74)
- a purple patch (something in 1985)
- purple reign (1985 again)
- nobody's home (1985 too)
- perfect live album (zürich 1985, don't think that's too rare)
- antiques roadshow (london 03.03.87)

Re: your pride and joy
The pick (plectrum) is interesting, but as a collectors item, is worth very little, if you're ever interested in getting rid of it, let me know... I'm willing to give up Glover/Deep Purple and Morse/Ernie Ball picks for it.

Your assumption is 100% dead-on correct -according to Simon Robinson & (I think) Nigel Young. For a lot of things pertaining to Deep Purple & Associated projects, I'll use a famous character's line from Monty Python (as portrayed by Eric Idle) to emphasize how much stock is generally put into what info they share with us fans: "Say no more, say no more!"

Re: your pride and joy
GM: Thanks for your offer, but I'll keep the Satch plectrum. It reminds me of the 1994 shows I saw, and it reminds me of meeting him backstage (he's a very nice guy), and as a souvenir, I'll keep it.

Re: your pride and joy
Yes, he is a very nice chap, I spoke with him again on the phone yesterday, he said very little about Gillans Inn though, and his new album Supercollosal is awesome, I'll be seeing him again next month, hopefully get backstage, and get my Purple ticket from Reno 2002 signed.
The plectrum is a remakable time piece from that tour.

Re: your pride and joy
I just re-read the posts in this topic, and I realized I hadn't really contributed any descriptions of things in my Purple collection which I consider to be 'pride 'n joys'...well, here's a few:
The Original lyric sheet to the "Machine Head" album, autographed by all the MkII members (it took me over 15 years, between 1972 & 1986 to get all the autographs)
All the original vinyls from the 1968 - 1976 era, in their originally designed packaging. In other words, the gatefold album cover versions of "Deep Purple"; "Concerto for Group & Orchestra", etc.,etc.
The 3 volumes of the "New, Live & Rare" eps that came out in the late 70s- early 80s, and the beautifully packaged (though somewhat superfluous, considering I already had the music) Japanese "New, Live & Rare" lp.
The earliest(?) of Deep Purple compilations, "Purple Passages" & "MkI & MkII".
Oh yeah, one of the only copies of the tapes of semi-legendary "Babyface" sessions w/Blackmore, Phil Lynott & Ian Paice. *
I also have the 8-track tapes of all of Purple's stuff that was released on that media up through "Who Do We Think We Are?". I haven't pulled them out in ages - as I haven't owned an 8-track player in over 25 years, at least!
Of course, the "Illustrated Biography" by Chris Charleworth, the "Deep Purple Heavy Meatl Photo Book" & a Japanese publication that was a combo of photos and selected lyrics - printed in Japanese (I've thought of trying to get the 'Chronological History' thing in the back translated, just to see what it says)
* Yeah, that's right - that's an "Are you paying attention?" type of thing!

Re: your pride and joy
The autograhphed item sounds nice!
The Japanese photo/lyric book is worth over $100, I've seen them fetch a pretty penny or two on ebay, no joke.
Now this brings me to the zillion dollar question:
How on earth did you obtain a copy of the "Babyface" recording??????
Whats the source of the recording?
Who did you buy it from, and what format is it in, ie cassette, vinyl???
(then you can kill me)
When you say you're one of the only ones with the recording, it's true, but I'd like to know how you went about coming across it?
I know what it's like to own recordings that are unique like this, for instance I have an EMI Harvest acetate of "Shades Of Deep Purple" it's the only one their is, and you couldn't possibly put a price on it.
Any evasive darting, will result in a barrage of PM's about this...
(I can see we might have to talk privately about this)
