Rapture is a great cd

Well there I was yesterday driving across the state of Florida, Tampa to Vero Beach (about 6 hrs round trip) to meet with a client. On my trip, I took 3 cds with me, Rainbow (Rising), Government Mule (Deja Voodoo) and DP Rapture of the Deep. We all know Rising is great, and I enjoyed hearing it for the 1*10^25 time! The Mule’s last cd is great as well; with the great Warren Haynes giving it has best as only he can do. Finally with my third listen, I popped in Rapture into the Nissan Altima I rented from Enterprise (hell no I won’t put miles on my Murano for work related travels). I hadn’t listened to Rapture since before x-mas. When I listened to it upon its release I wasn’t all that impressed. After a few more listens I liked it, but didn’t think it was anything special. But man after not listening to it for about 2 months, I was floored as to how f&cking awesome it is!! I must have listened to it about 4 times in succession on my trek. After some initial criticism to Paice, he sounds a lot better now! I love the swing on GLT and on other songs. On Back to Back, previously I thought man my grandmother all 92 years of her, could keep the pace on that track. Then yesterday I heard all those Paicey signature fills in and out of the song, and I’m like that’s PAICEY!! RG’s bass sound is kick-ass and omnipresent throughout, I have to cream my pants every time I listen to Things I Never Said and MTV, great bass work on those tracks, in addition to the others. Finally, Steve Morse kicks total ass on this cd!!! I think this is the best guitar work Steve has done with DP. From the bone crushing riffs/rhythm work on Wrong Man, Money Talks, to the Allmanesque sounding Don’t let go, and to the great solos on Rapture (love the part at the end of the solo where he hits those high notes and holds its…pure magic) MTV, Back to Back, Before Time Began, JY Blues, etc. to the Dregs-esque riff on JY Blues (this riff kinda reminds me of Blood Sucking Leaches, a great Dregs tune) it’s a bible as to how a guitar should sound (and be played) in a rock group IMHO (similar to Rising, Perfect Strangers, PT=MC^2, See the light, in Step, Axis Bold as Love, Houses of the Holy, etc).

This just in: Steve Morse and Don Airey are da bomb and DP still kicks ass, with a new great cd!! Thanks fellas for a worthy addition to the great DP catalogue.

Now the big question, when are they going to play in Florida??? Since I’m a daddy-o now, the WIFE won’t allow me to take out-of-state trips…unless I don’t take her and baby Sophia with. That rules out trips to the stip jo…ah never mind.

Memo to DP and promoters: call up Warren Haynes, get the Mule involved in the tour and take your asses over to the Tampa State Theater and put on a kick-ass show.

I agree whole heartedly with bad mofo.
I too had to listen to Rapture a few times to fully appreciate the album for how Good it really is.

I have to agree with Mr Mofo, although I don't know why he wants the Purps to go round kicking donkeys.
When I first got my hands on the new album I gave it a few spins, and then put it back on my shelf thinking 'Hmm, it's different..'. Then, today, whilst I've been off work with the bloody flu, I gave it another twirl (unfortunately not whilst driving through Florida, just gazing through my window at the snowy Lancashire hills) and it came to life. It's a great record.
I've read a lot here and there along the lines of 'It's not Purple', or worse, but to me it's very definately VERY Purple. Many of the elements that go to make great Purple music are there, and more besides. It's progressive. There's something different about it, sometimes subtle, at times very obvious. I love it.
Come supper it's Airey/Morse; they are the main musical drivers in the band now, and fantastic musicians they are too. It's their band. It's also IG, IP, and RG's band too, and they are older than they used to be.
Much as I adore the stuff from the last 37 years, this is today's DP.
One of the things I love about Purple is that every album's different, that's the way it should be!

I'ld glady trade places with you. I despise hot weather and am a cold weather freak!!! I once went snowmobiling with the wind chill at -75 (degrees F) in Canada, 8 hrs from the Arctic circle.

Florida STINKS!!!!

I live in Canada, and I love it here.
What's the matter with u bad mofo?
U hate hot weather, but would like to trade places with Friar Snig. Florida is quite warm this time of year. Either I just don't get it, or u are on some wacky stuff.
Either way, Rapture of the Deep Is a great CD

I've never been to Florida, or Canada, but I'd love to go and see both.
Just to put it in perspective, although it's a bit snowy here today the temperature is just about hovering around zero and the snow is very wet and slushy, on the point of melting. That's about as cold as it gets! Come the summer I don't expect it will get much past 25 c either.
I'd love a few extremes!
That's England for you!

An excellent line and succinct way of putting it. Just great music. Deep Purple's songwriting has never been better - they're a very cohesive unit.

And here was me thinking it was just me! Seriously though, when I first listened to Rapture I had not read any negative reviews. Suffice to say I was a little disappointed with it. Now after playing it in the car to and from work I have to go round all of my friends and explain to them how wrong I was. Maybe that's key, it's a 'road trip' CD! Now I am even more excited about the impending concert in Auckland NZ on 27th April.

ROTD is actually not in my car CD player, which has been unuausal.

I can usually tell how much I like a CD by the number of tracks I usually skip.

I liked Bananas, and still do, but after a month or so, it started to get old. If I pop Bananas in I usually only listen to Sun Goes Down, Silver Tounge, IGYN, Bananas and DIT.

With ROTD I only skip over a few tracks (Gilrs Like That, Wrong Man, Back to Back) I don't always skip over those either. It definitely has stayiung power...especially when you add TINS to the mix...which is just a great song.

ROTD is my favorite CD right now....still in heavy rotation.
