Should they not have included any bonus tracks on the Glory Road remaster then? If that's the case, those tracks would have remained in the 'limited circle'.

I don't understand what you think is wrong with releasing a special edition cd with bonus disc for the fans who've supported them. I for one am very much looking forward to hearing some updated versions of old CL songs.

Has nothing particular to do with CL. I am against bonus material. Period. I don´t make an exception for CL/DP/JL/RB/BN or whoever. When they sell out and produce "bonus" material, they sell out.

Exception: Release the bonus material, and give away copies to the selected few, but release it for public consumption.

Depends on your definition of bonus material, and then on the motives behind releasing it.

If a record label finds a couple of "new" tracks by an established artist - probably stuff that wasn't good enough to be on the album in the first place, or a live recording that hasn't appeared on any official live album - and then adds that to a load of stuff that people have already got and release it as a bonus/new/rarity, then I completely agree with you, as I usually have done in the past.

However, I think that you've possibly misunderstood what Celtic Legacy are doing if you lump them in the above category.

All Celtic Legacy are doing is offering an extra to people who commit to the cause by ordering upfront. And lets face it, that extra consists of material which would never make it as a commercial release in its own right. And who's to say that if its well received it wouldn't be included in future pressings anyway, assuming the album takes off?

The "problem" is that there will exist limited versions of music. Those limited versions will (hopefully for CL) create demand. If they (CL) then get established, and lose control those tracks will (with 90% probability) be used as bait.

I bought Glory Road on the day of release, only to find out later, that I was not a Gillan fan, since I was not allowed to get a copy of For Gillan Fans Only. Same tracks later used as bait to sell the remaster.

There are many ways of thanking the supporting people, but I believe music should be public available, and not made for limited circles.

Okay, here's the reality of the situation:
We're not tied to a record OR publishing contract. Therefore the songs we have produced on the first two albums, and indeed on the next one, remain 100% the property of Celtic Legacy. No one has any rights to release anything without our permission which isn't going to be given on past releases. And as Ian and Dave Mc have already said, we're not a rip off band.

In regards to releasing everything, would you have accepted Deep Purple putting, for example, Jam Stew on the original issue of In Rock? Or The Noise Abatement Society Tapes on the original Fireball? That's the crux of the argument. If we release everything we'll be putting a lot of substandard demos/fillers onto our next album and what's the point in doing that? On our last album we had a full disk of bonus material...NONE of which we thought good enough for the main album, but we still took the trouble of letting people hear those tracks (and I might add...substantially increasing the cost of manufacturing the album in the first place, which incidentally, we had to fund ourselves). And it stood as the ONLY version of the album to see the light of day. Granted there may yet be a standard edition of the album released...a remote possibility, BUT if it happens we won't be using anything as bait such as any 'previously unreleased' material. In fact, I already found a disk of rare versions from those recording sessions and gave them to anyone who wanted them...note that, I GAVE those songs to people...not sold.

I trust I've made my point.

Re: Celtic Legacy new album updates

I think that people are having a problem distinquishing between music that a record label puts out and that put out by a band.

Celtic Legacy will have to fund, promote and distribute this album all by themselves (with a little help from friends). They may not sell enough albums to cover their costs and will therefore have to dig into their own pockets to cover any loss.
With this is mind, I believe that they have the right to release any material, in any format, that will ensure that they cover the costs.

If you dont like the way things are done then dont buy the music. If the last album is anything to go by, you will be the one that misses out.

And yes, when CL came over to England for the last Deep Purple tour, he almost had to pay excess luggage costs because of all the CD's he bought with him. These contained every out-take that he could find and were GIVEN to those that wanted them (I think I came home with about 4 different CD's).

Great stuff CL, ignore the knockers and keep a doing what you do best.

Rock On.

What´s the surprise here ? emoticon I never read Mr. Snip say anything nice about anything emoticon or being polite emoticon so i really don´t expect it from him ! Hey Mr. Snip , i´m not saying this in a offensive way, it´s a fact that you have a way of expressing yourself here that will not please many people but it´s your way and no one should forbid you to use it, even if i really don´t like it ! I guess it´s ok to say that you don´t like something without being very offensive right ? emoticon

Anyway emoticon Dave i heard your band just now , i always read about it here but actually never went to the site ! i like the Hero song, i don´t know if i´m wrong but it sounds like what would Iron Maiden sound if Steve Harris was irish emoticon It´s not my favorite kind of rock/metal music , but it´s very good music and i can´t see no reason for Celtic Legacy not becoming a strong name in the Heavy/Power metal scene !

Rock In

That's exactly the point.

Its impossible to pigeonhole (and so condemn?) all bonus material as being one and the same. You have to take account of the context and the commercial reasons behind the issuing of any such, and judge each case on its own merits.

I personally like bonus tracks.

on Mr Universe some of the "bonus" tracks are better then the regular tracks.

I got 20 tracks for however much I would have paid for a regular CD. I just wish I had bought more of the Gillian CDs when they came out.

I am also looking forward to checking out Celetic Legacy. Computer sound is not working but if fellow DP fans like them I'm sure they will be worth while.
