But I don't really care, I just come with some input. People can believe it or not. Thanks for the input. Just a few comments: 1 Despite any censorship, what is on the internet is public information. Even in China or wherever else. 2 I'm not making a moral statement here. I'm only refering to the status of "public information" in legal systems where it exists. While I do agree that a website refering to another website by making the content of the latter become its own content might be an infringement of copyrights or authors rights, there is a big difference with a link mentioning the name and the URL of the refered website. As I already explained, there is no problem for a newspaper to refer to the information published by another - clearly identified -newspaper. I don't get the point how the U-Tube visiting would drop just because links to U-Tube are appearing on other websites. To the contrary, this is the best of any advertisement. Furthermore, there is no problem for a website to restrict its visitors by asking for a password or a registration. Another case would be a website linking to another website where unlawful material is posted (i.e. child porn). This issue is not about copyright of course, it's about criminal behaviour... In general, I'm quite concerned by the way copyrights and other intellectual rights restrict our main background liberty. Because some abuse those rights, everybody has to be put under Big Brother's eye. That is unacceptable, untolerable and unlawful. As I have already explained as well, under Belgian law, and contrary to what some courts might have decided, there is no ground in forbiding private copy. When I buy a CD, I buy the right to put its content on another material support for my own private use. The right of private ownership is a fundamental right and any restriction to it must be, by law, interpreted in a limited way. The best thing that could happen to U-Tube would be to keep being linked to websites hosting potentially interested viewers. And the best thing which could happen to bands like Purple and other would be to appear and websites like U-Tube. It's a wonderful free adverstising for on-sale official items (CD, DVD). The music business might be too hypocrite (or just too silly) to understand that...nondisclosed_email@example.com (Al Erikson)Thu, 01 Feb 2007 08:26:10 +0000 Re: How can we improve the forums?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p392702,from=rss#post392702https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p392702,from=rss#post392702quote:Al Erikson wrote: quote:MrSnip wrote: quote:Al Erikson wrote: Instead of posting videos/U-Tube things all around, wouldn't it be better to open a Video section? Maybe you missed it the first time...here, I'll reiterate: "I beleive by general consensus it'll be agreed that I'm one of the more 'computer illiterate' members of not only this board, but the entire Internet".  I don't know about the 6 feet thing, but I bet it's at least 1.* Yes, you did... but don't you know human nature by now?(or atleast my expressions of it here) *Sigh...here, try reading it again, Larry: "I've had few, if any problems in these areas, and when I have had problems, it's almost always something I myself did incorrectly.  This is apparently a problem when attempting to correspond with you, and apparently not just for myself - it seems at times you simply refuse to read exactly what's written, as I give the benefit of the doubt that you are, in fact, quite capable of reading exactly what's posted. * Ah... is this something you can't say about one hell of a LOT of people here? Right or wrong, the second half of that is "irrelevant" indeed, and adds nothing but the sort of tact I was speaking of. *That's quite possibly true....I don't know about the 'badly', part, but there's little doubt that computer courses could quite possibly be of benefit to me.* I should have used the smiley for an indication of that good ole fashioned humor, but I thought you might react. This however is a surprise, and quite the opposite of my reaction to your last post, on a few counts, perhaps you were excentuating my advice about tact... just a little? (very well done btw, talk about clever) (left big for those who might care) *It's fine if you don't consider what was posted as fit for you, but you're hardly in the position to speak for everyone, which is what's implied with your use of the word anyone...because if the advice helps one single person on the entire planet, it totally negates your statement. I'd suggest first applying it the way it was given - to you & you alone. * If I was 'anyone' which we both know I'm not, thats how I would see it, in this case. I also don't think anyone on the entire planet gives care. *Maybe not in your view...pity, because that's what it was intended to be, at least the serious parts, anyway.* Well you just don't pick up on things much in the way of what I need(?) *Ah, I see we're apparently back to wearing the judgmental hat again! That's fine...what's the size of that hat, anyway? It must be pretty big.* 'Judgemental hat' you say... just exactly what do you wear when it's cold?   As far as I feel you should remain goes? THE WORD 'NEUTRAL' SPRINGS TO MIND PRETTY FAST. * That's entirely possible, though I fail to see where I 'personally attacked' you - if that's what you're implying - or implied that you had personally attacked myself or anyone else in the post of yours I quoted from & replied to.* I shouldn't have to point it out to you, it's right there for anyone to see. *Nope, no can or will do - see immediately above.* Chuckling as I request you to do the exact same. *I know you were kidding, that doesn't mean I want to let you in on it.* * I almost chose not to even answer this, as I don't know whom 'Mr. Expert' might be, in a computer/internet sense - I just know it can't be & isn't me.  There are other things I've been rated as 'expert' in, but computers & the internet are definitely not on the list.  I couldn't tell you who my 'server' is, nor do I know what a 'T1' connection is.* Well then, you should not have brought that into it, in the first place. *I've never given you **** at any time. If and/or when I do, I suggest using it for fertilizer - should you choose to, you'll grow some prize-winning roses, bellieve me.* Aren't ya glad to know you still got it? (very funny) * Sure I'm qualified to give you **** - just stand near my ass a few hours after feeding time & I can easily put that base canard to rest.* Ouch! Nothing like a double hitter... *Now I'll seriously answer that - it wasn't my intention to 'give [you] any s h i t about computers', Larry - I was merely answering your post, though admittedly in a semi-jocular way at times, and suggesting that the problem just might possibly somehow be at your end, not stating that any problems definitely were at your end.  The only times I've had any problems with Runboard's server, I've usually gotten a rather quick (within seconds) notification that there's a problem of some sort at their end and to try whatever it is I'm attempting to do later. I believe that the server(s) Runboard employs are carrying the burden of potentially hundreds of thousands of discussion boards with potentially miliions of members. Considering that more than likely over half of those boards & users are using the service (virtually) for free, I think they do a pretty damn good job & the fairly rare occurances when there is a relatively major problem are viewed as more of a nuisance than a major problem by me - but that's just me, I realize not everyone can or will be willing to view it that way.* The problem is not on my end, it's not pinging to all points at all times with any real finnesse to speak of, but I'm sure you don't know what that means, although I did figure you knew what a 'network' is by now... but I guess you don't see any use for more than one or two computers at a time, even with all those boys running around. *Indeed they are.* If only we agreed on all of them... oops, I see a boredom complaint on the horizon. *Why not just speak as Deep Purple FanForum member to a fellow Deep Purple FanForum member? The fact that you may be a member of various other disussion boards' administrations is as wholly irrelevant as the fact that I also may be a member of various other disussion boards' administrations, or a member of the Deep Purple FanForum's administration. You feel free handle things the way you & your fellow administration members deem fit on boards where you are in fact in the administration of them, and the administration here will handle things the way that the administration here deems fit regarding this particular discussion board. Fair enough?  My advice to you, would be to have some tact when visiting here and realize you're merely a board member here just like the rest of us, and that any administrative status you may have on any other discussion board is, again, wholly irrelevant on this board...and if what you stated was meant to be interpreted in the reverse (that you're giving me advice on how to conduct myself) it's still quite out of place. Believe me, if I ever feel I need such advice from you, I won't hesitate to seek it from you - which I haven't done in the past, nor did I do so in this particlar case.  I would also advise posting complaints/problems/issues regarding Runboard's facilities & server issues in the appropriate milieus, i.e. The Runboard Support Forums & it's related Runboard Tech Forum would be a better way to get such issues resolved.* Good question really,, and solid advice as well, but I will also post wherever compelled, and this is good enough for now, as I was only mentioning it on the forum level, if I have that much of a concern in the future, I will take it up with them, although conversation is not their middle... I would have to be brief and characterless, what a thought to ponder. *I don't know if they'd be insulting to you or anyone else or not. I can say that to the best of my knowledge, I've never been insulted by anyone on the Runboard staff, nor to the best of my knowledge have I ever insulted anyone on the Runboard staff. I do like to kid around with people, though - it's a risk that I might catch someone in a bad mood or a less-than-understanding mood and they choose to take gentle kidding or mild sarcasm seriously.* Understood, but aren't the features crapping out on you about now? Or will you excuse it as your own human error, again? (I seriously don't know, but you may or may not have made a mistake) *I know it's kinda unrelated, and perhaps a bad analogy (or is it a comparison? I don't know - English wasn't one of my stronger subjets of study during my school years) but you were also sure that David Coverdale's & Glenn Hughes' first U.S. concert with Deep Purple was the California Jam (to cite merely just one example)* Oh boy... not another attempt at sarcasm, the lowest form of witt... although I see the smiley's, and I get the joke, but some of the things you absorb...? Not sure I care what happened between 73 and 6, atleast not as much as the seemingly drugged out culture, for the most part, who does care to this day. So I would have to talk to some serious whoop freaks, about it baby baby. Really now, I'm not certain what book that was in, but I do remember a needed upgrade, since reading it elsewhere, and merely forgetting about it, funny how the brain files useless info, some stays with ya, and some is as foggy as the music they were playing that that time. Had that been important to me... well... I'm sure thats a whole nother subject. (I also see the sarcasm, but it apparently is foggy too) What was I again, a pure DP lapdog??? Some read way too far between the lines. *other boards* well I don't remember mentioning any, nothing to do with other areas, just always stimulating my activities, and I don't apply one to the other, and there hasn't been any reason to suggest I do, other than any claims you may have about this not being a place to support artists, or to do anything specifically besides argue. I believe that the server(s) Runboard employs are carrying the burden of potentially hundreds of thousands of discussion boards with potentially miliions of members. Considering that more than likely over half of those boards & users are using the service (virtually) for free, I think they do a pretty damn good job & the fairly rare occurances when there is a relatively major problem are viewed as more of a nuisance than a major problem by me - but that's just me, I realize not everyone can or will be willing to view it that way. quote: (facts are facts)  Indeed they are. quote: My advice to you, as a runboard forum Admin, Why not just speak as Deep Purple FanForum member to a fellow Deep Purple FanForum member? The Runboard Support Forums & it's related Runboard Tech Forum would be a better way to get such issues resolved. quote: I doubt they would be insulting, sarcastically or not... quote:  I don't know if they'd be insulting to you or anyone else or not. I can say that to the best of my knowledge, I've never been insulted by anyone on the Runboard staff, nor to the best of my knowledge have I ever insulted anyone on the Runboard staff. I do like to kid around with people, though - it's a risk that I might catch someone in a bad mood or a less-than-understanding mood and they choose to take gentle kidding or mild sarcasm seriously. quote: I'm sure they don't have your kind of time.  I know it's kinda unrelated, and perhaps a bad analogy (or is it a comparison? I don't know - English wasn't one of my stronger subjets of study during my school years) but you were also sure that David Coverdale's & Glenn Hughes' first U.S. concert with Deep Purple was the California Jam (to cite merely just one example). / nondisclosed_email@example.com (MrEd45)Sun, 29 Oct 2006 23:13:06 +0000 Re: How can we improve the forums?https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p383084,from=rss#post383084https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p383084,from=rss#post383084quote:MrEd45 wrote: quote:Gillans micstand wrote:  My problem with all of that, is that the features don't tend to take when you change your profiles. I can confirm this last method does work! I have used it for most of my time on here. I have email off and private messaging on. However, I have a list of exclusions for PM. I find it easier to manage this setup directly on Runboard because I know the names of anyone I want to add to the exclusion list. Also it only affects me when I log into Runboard, not everytime I open my email inbox. Another option, which requires a bit of knowledge of your email client, is to only allow email PM's. Then you setup your required filter rules in your email client. It's a bit more flexible than the runboard features, since you can personalize the rules, and not only white-,blacklist White hats and Black hats.
