Bob Dylan/The Band - Before The Flood
Last night I had a really good time listening to the live album Bob Dylan did together with the Band.
Wow, what a fabulous live record that is! Two thirds Dylan classics and one third hit by The Band(including the Easy Rider song "The Weight" of course).
I know that many don´t like Dylan´s voice and style, but to me he´s just outstanding brilliant on that album, goes to show is a much better performer than studio musician.
The way changes melody and arrangement of songs always excites me again. His intonation goes different ways in unexpected places and songs that normally are very quite rock even more with the backing band.
This is the way I want to hear him, not a good voice but he´s able to deliver feeling through his songs and that in my opinion quite makes up for his lack of vocal abilities. Even his guitar playing is outstanding there.
Almost everything is electric and his biggest hits sound so different to what you´re used to hear them. The instrumentation is brilliant as well.
I think there´s a half that doesn´t agree with me and another one who doesn´t know that record, but to me this has be one of the most exciting live albums I´ve ever heard. Period.

Re: Bob Dylan/The Band - Before The Flood
I don't know if you've ever noticed Milan, but "Before The Flood" almost always makes any list I ever put together for this forum regarding "essential live" or "classic live' albums. Great to see you've discovered this one, 'cause it's as you day, "fabolous (I think you were going for 'fabulous' there!), brilliant, outstanding + exciting". I couldn't agree more!

One of my "favourite" typos!
So another point we agree on. Lay Lady Lay is just brilliant. Saying this, everything is.

Isn't it though? We can only imagine what Purple's '68 cover sounded like! Man, what I'd give to be able to give that a listen!

Re: Bob Dylan/The Band - Before The Flood
I love the way he sings it and goes up in the intonation instead of going down or just keeping it. That´s what I like about most of the songs. It´s very powerful and the mood in the audience(s?)must have been fantastic. My album has no recording details on it, do you know any?

There's just no accounting for some people's overabundance of good taste nor others' lack of same, is there Milan?

Re: Bob Dylan/The Band - Before The Flood
Great album - got heavy rotattion on my hifi-set in the seventies. I don´t have it on cd as I see, so I must dig out the vinyl. What an album. Great stuff. dd

Re: Bob Dylan/The Band - Before The Flood
Before the Flood was my first Dylan album. I should say that it is a great introduction to the man's career. My lasting impression of this one is that there seems to be an overall warmth to the performance. The Band is wonderful here as well. I certainly recommend this one.
