Maiden Auditions
Hi Doogie, i have to say that i've been a fan for a long time, since Midnight Blue actually, love your work with Cornerstone, all 3 albums, also with Rainbow and with Prayin Mantis last album.
My question is, what do you recall from your Maiden audition, let me tell you that as a Maiden fan for more than 20 years you were my number 1 replacement for Bruce, and i would love to hear the result, unfortunatly it wasn't made to be.
Cheers and keep on giving us good music

Re: Maiden Auditions
Hi IP,
I am glad you like what I do. Midnight Blue keeps rearing its ugly but well loved head these days. Nostalgia?? Odin Forbid am I that olde?
As for Maiden it was a few years ago now. I was supposed to be going to Scotland to visit when Dick Bell arrived on my doorstep and said that "there was no fookin way" I was going to Scotland as I had to audition for Maiden on the Monday. I had an intense weekend learning 20 odd songs. Dickie picked me up and ran me to Steve's hoose where we ran through the songs. It was loud and we sounded good. Steve and I had a chat after.
I got a call back sometime later and we ran the songs again. I felt good and confident ...But it was not to be.
If I had joined Maiden, I would have been a wealthier man but then I would not have been in Rainbow and that was a passion.
There are a couple of "tribute albums" of Maiden tunes and I am on them. If you want to hear how it may have sounded..Given of course that its not Maiden and its .....well NOT MAiden.

Re: Maiden Auditions
Hi there.
Of course i like what you do, i even like Malmsteen now, wich i was never a fan...
I heard those tributes and they sound very good with your voice, but there's no Maiden without Steve playing, that sound is just not the same, although very good bassists worked on those records.
But what i was talking was about your writing with them, that would've been great, because i love your writing and your lyrics.
I also understand that Rainbow was a dream come true to you and it's a shame that only one album came from that collaboration, because Stanger in us all is a great album, and i heard some shows and you fit real well with older material.
Any chance of a solo album? How about a gig in Portugal, even with Malmsteen i would go there, and maybe meet you :-)
Thanks for answering
