Re: Slaves and Masters leftovers
I actualy think both Fire... and Slow down sister are terrible. The cheesiest songs Purple ever recorded and their worst before a few Abandon tracks totally ruined my faith in Purple songwriting abilities for a while. I'd rather hear JLT BRO demoes. They can't be that poppy since Purple were going for a harder sound at the time and JLT recorded his heaviest album ever in 1993 with Mother's Army which sounds a lot like Dehumaniser to these ears.

I like Slow Down Sister, too.
Even though it is a rip off of Stormbringer -not that that's too bad a thing...

Re: Slaves and Masters leftovers
I certainly want to hear Joes' beginning and end to the brief S&M follow-up, which= TBRO!
Some of the best material are B-Sides and Alternate takes....
And TBRO to me, is much much better than S&M, and a fine album when compared to MK.2 albums, reunion and otherwise. The tour, where CHOHW was born, showed the band at odds, hot at each other, and hot under the spotlight, which equals good views and listening.
I welcome all unheard Purple... as Ive never heard it before

Re: Slaves and Masters leftovers
Okay - you've accounted for 11 of the tracks.
The two mostly finished and unreleased tracks are Hey Joe and (I think) Heart Like a Hurricane (aka Eye of the Hurricane). Don't Just Call it Love is, I believe, a title given to an unfinished demo.
'Stroke of Midnight’, ‘Lonely for You’, ‘Vicious Circle of Friends’, 'Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is' and 'Bad Business'were all supposedly titles for the follow-up.
Cheers
Doug

Great info as usual, Doug, thanks. And a significant "ps", too!
According to the discography section of THS, the only two tracks completed w/JLT for "The Battle Rages On" album were "Stroke of Midnight" + "Lonely For You". The source quoted was an interview with Blackmore from sometime in the mid to late '90s in either Classic Rock or Guitar Player*, I think.
*Just decided to look it up - it was Record Collector.
...and just came across this one again - finally! :
Q: After "Slaves + Masters" I have heard that you and the DP guys wrote some killer tracks called "Lost In The Machine" and "Stroke of Midnight" that didn't make "The Battle Rages On"...will these ever see the light of day?
A: Never say never, but I doubt it. Politics...Jim Peterick from Survivor co-wrote those tracks, then I departed, then DP recorded "Battle", then Ritchie left. I have copies of thses songs, they should be released somehow.
Q: The DP album "The Battle Rages On" was somewhat of a letdown - what stage did the tracks get to with you in the band and how different were the finished tracks with Gillan to those with you?
A: We had some completed tracks...some work[s] in progress...it was a different album than "Battle". Some of the tracks were very different vocally. The songs weren't the same anymore. - Joe Lynn Turner to Alanna Evans, Rainbow MetalFlame Domain, May 2000

Re: Slaves and Masters leftovers
...hmmm I don't know what's the matter with you, 'cos Slaves and Masters is easily the best Deep Purple album since reunion! And why - it doesn't have that horrible Ian Gillan!
...by the way - my friend spoke with Mr. Bruce Payne in New York last year. Turned out that payne owns the un-released TBRO and all the Rainbow tapes from 1975-1997...but unfortunately he doesn't see any business in releasing that stuff...
