A STATEMENT FROM REAL JOHN MCCOY
As some of you, guys, probably remember I was a regular member on the Highway Star Forum. HSF closing was a major loss for me, being a big Purple collector and enthusiast. Now why I was absent from this one. Since this BB started I always felt that something is definetely wrong here. And I'm not talking only about myself. Most of my friends in Moscow are serious Purple fans (some of them DPAS members) and collectors but they stayed away from this place as well. And the reason is simple: all this JLTBS and anti-Turner hysteria gives Purple fans a very bad name. You may dislike JLT, it's a matter of personal taste but all this bashing is way too immature. Personally insulting in an extremely rude manner an artist, who is (like it or not) a very important part of Purple family and is considered a true legend by many means insulting a lot of Purple fans who enjoy his work. The level of discussion is so ridiculous and juvenile that one can't even understand that this is Deep Purple forum, not a Linkin Park or some gangsta rap teenage BB. You JLTBS members make Beavis and Butthead look like serious music critics and thus anyone who feels different about Joe (and that's a big part of hard rock audience) stays away from joining the discussion. Thousands of people who witnessed HTP gig in Moscow this year, sang along and rocked to Rainbow classics performed in a great way by Joe would be really surprised to learn how the so-called "true" Purple fans treat him. Most of you never even bothered to hear his post S&M output (Mother's Army, Brazen Abbot, Nostradamus, solo CDs and other projects) so you, guys, really remind me of poor brainwashed soviet people who publicly condemned Pasternak or Solshenytsin back in the 60's: "I haven't read his books but I know that he's a scum and a traitor!"
Now think about and maybe try to grow up a little.

Re: A STATEMENT FROM REAL JOHN MCCOY
I second your opinion, even if some of the worst basher's obviously know a bit of what they're talking about. Personally I find JLT a fine, if somewhat uninteresting singer. I think S&M is a fine album, and many more out here does as well.
If I rate the singers in DP/Rainbow then JLT will fall down on the list, due to the competition, and even when we not make that kind of lists JLT is always measured against highly regarded singers on this board.
This board ain't free for good manners though, just notice how good Rod Evans is treated here. He's a beloved ex-purple member. So is JLT too to some, but not to all. Same goes for Glenn Hughes and Tommy Bolin, and Steve Morse for that matter.
Some fun must be allowed though, even if one disagree. Then the best you can do is to return the jokes.

Maybe Joe would laugh about the songs from MrEd too...
And maybe if your friends and you would take part in the discussions here there would be more useful threads about Joe...

Re: A STATEMENT FROM REAL JOHN MCCOY
This forum, just like THS, is a humourous place. I bash JLT, I am a memeber of the JLTBS. As I've said before I don't dislike the man, in fact I'd go as far as to say he was probably one of the first rock singers that actually got me interested way back at the end of the 70s and early 80s. But that doesn't mean that I am fond of the work he did with DP. Let's face it this is a DP forum and within the DP context I could do without Joe. However, I would agree that as a DP "family" member, he is as valued as any other.
That is not to say that JLT was totally responsible for DPs direction during "That Time", when in my honest opinion, they became a joke. That is my opinion and I am entitled to it. Some people do like the music of S&M. Personally it wouldn't bother me if I never heard it again (once was enough thanks). again this is my pesonal opinion and is not intended to devalue the man's talent or any fan's individual tastes.
This is a place to have fun and lets face it JLT is an easy target for the butt of many jokes, which I'm trying very hard to resist..........

Re: A STATEMENT FROM REAL JOHN MCCOY
Someone pointed me to this
http://com3.runboard.com/bdeeppurplefanforum.fritchierelated.t163
thread, and I think it shows how this forum could be better. Some potential for worthwhile discussion, but it all too often ends with a few people with too much time on their hands pointlessly arguing. No fun to read at all, I expected more from Purple fans.
I also agree with your point about bashing people. If you don't have anything nice to say...

I agree completely. I'll make fun of him from time to time, but I make fun of everyone.
I don't listen to it very often, and I know many here will disagree, but JLT era Rainbow is my favorite. He had (and still does) a great voice. I just wish he could get involved with good songwriters again. He's making a living, but his talent isn't being brought out by the newer stuff.

Welcome back REAL JOHN MCCOY!
All I can say is that if you don't read the emoticons, then you won't know if someone is
just having fun and being humorus, and meant to be taken with a grain of salt.
Nothing immature about that.

Re: A STATEMENT FROM REAL JOHN MCCOY
I've been monitoring Deep Purple message boards since about 1997, as far back as the old guest book on The Highway Star (before The Highway Star message boards) and alt.music.deep-purple before the lunatics took over there. I'm not saying that this board couldn't be improved, but compared to what alt.music.deep-purple has become and the old Highway Star guest book, this is a pretty good forum.

Watching him prance around the stage made we want to puke." - STARSHIP TROOPER.
That's a pretty typical example of some folk's sense of humour around here, mate! I dunno, maybe I don't have ANY sense of humour?
As much as I dislike ...let's say, Axl Rose, I'm not exactly ready to call him a squeely shemale or something!
P.S. By the way, thanx for you welcome, Gillan's Micstand!

Re: A STATEMENT FROM REAL JOHN MCCOY
Joe Turner is a world class singer. If you like his voice or not! I agree that compared to Gillan or Dio he's less, but who isn't! Stop bashing, he's done more than enough that's very good!!!
