Re: So Has JLT Earned More Respect?
From my standpoint, I hold Blackmore the most accountable, though being a band, the whole band must accept their culpability in the debacle. He wanted to be "leader of the pack", well, that means you can have the lion's share of the accolades when things go well and the lion's share when things go bad, too.
I think it's been gone over before how JLT's name got put into the mix for the post of Purple's vocalist, but I can't recall all the details right at this moment. I'll go out on a limb and speculate that it was likely Blackmore's suggestion. It seemed at that point, if any of the others had decided to put up a real fight over the selection, Blackmore would've been perfectly happy to see any of them take a walk. That any of the rest would offer any real argument over it is pretty unlikely, as their backing of Payne and Blackmore over Gillan's dismissal pretty much sums up who + what was driving the band at that time.

Re: So Has JLT Earned More Respect?
Judging by the shady dealings throuout the bands history when it comes to firing and replacing band members,
I wouldn't doubt if management promised JLT a crack
at the position of DP vocalist when things convieniently
went to !@#$ with Gillan.
For one
Rainbow was cut off at a time when they were just starting
to acheive the success they deserved,no matter who was singing, but it just so happens it was Joe.
It's too bad that by the time he got the job it had already blown his head sky high.

Re: So Has JLT Earned More Respect?
JLT is incredible good at saying whatever's totally off at any badly picked occasion. One cannot take his drivel seriously, he's just too funny. But a good singer!

Re: So Has JLT Earned More Respect?
{BUMPIII} Poll is still open, so let's have some more votes + opinions on this topic.
I'll not hold my breath waiting for thanks from JLT's fans for this benevolent service of the *****.

Re: So Has JLT Earned More Respect?
Well I see it, JLT never seems to fit in with bands (except Rainbow) Yngwie Malmsteen fans are less hard on him (for some reason) yet people here can be very mean!
I admire Joe for stepping up to the plate, and trying his best to be in that sort of situation!
He gave it his all and you can't expect more than that-he did great and sure he's not everyone's cup of tea but I really loved his lone album and he's my favorite Deep Purple singer (YES I'm nuts )

I use the word "earned" because it's always bothered me a little when people title topics like these with "deserve". Respect , to me, is something to be earned. Semantics, but there it is.
Anyway, what's the forum's view on this? Has he earned any more respect from people since '91?
Ed, just on the respect thing: I'd agree with you if you consider that any human being earns respect from the moment he/her exists. It's up to him/her to keep this respect value, to enhance it or to lose it, by his/her act towards the world.
It's a little bit like in some school, where they say: everybody's got A+ right from the start. All you have to do is to keep it...
To me, human beings deserve the respect they grant to the others.
