Suggestions for other good Bolin albums?
I really liked Tommy's work on CTTB. If I enjoyed that material, which other mark four deep purple material would I also enjoy?
In other words, what else can you suggest?

Well, there is, lamentably, not much Mark IV to get. So I would recommend some other Bolin.
For Mark IV, I would say run, don't walk, and get the "Days May Come and Days May Go" disc. That is some great jamming and practicing and warming up to record CTTB. Lovely stuff, lively and funky. It was not meant to be a final, finished product though. Then check out the King Biscuit live disc; it has great moments.
For other Bolin, if you like CTTB, check out his two discs with the James Gang but first: GET "TEASER." His first solo disc is my favorite Bolin. Jim S

I know that King Biscuit has been released as Foxbat as well. Are these two exactly the same or is there a better buy between the two of them?

Re: Suggestions for other good Bolin albums?
Two albums I always suggest when people want recommendations.
The first is The Energy Radio Broadcasts, which is great, heavy blues rock.
The second is Zephyr - live at Arts Bar and Grill, which is just a tripped-out journey into psychedelia, blues, rock and jazz. Like a cross between Led Zeppelin and Big Brother and the Holding Company.
Bolin's playing on both releases is exceptional, and disproves the belief that the boy couldn't improvise live.
This, for me, was his peak.

Rahul,
I think you've sold me on the "Art Bar and Grill" recording. I'll have to get a copy. I think I'd have to add "MIND TRANSPLANT" to the list, as it's some of Bolin's best playing ever. We see glimpses of this on the DAZE cd as well. Wonderful fuzion player. Right in his element with Cobham, Mouzon and even Ian Paice with some of the neat work on DAZE.

Hi Gord,
Great toi see you around again! Hope things are well with you!
Definitely get Arts Bar & Grill. It is fabulous! Candy Givens on vocals is brilliant. Quite Joplinish!
And nearly stealing the show is John Faris on organ. Just sublime! His jazz influences really add something special!
I adore this recording, but I love that US psychedelic sound around at the time.
Mind Transplant is awesome too. Every bit as good as Spectrum in some ways. It's got such a good vibe! Very soulful and funky!

Gordster, as you may well know Rahul is full of !@#$ and is not to be trusted when comes to music. In this this case though, when recommending Live at Art's Bar and Grill he accidentally/luckily hit the nail. It's excellent!
