1/4 INCH Instrument Cable

I can't remember the name of it, but Guitar Center sells this really expensive cable for $40.00 per 12-feet. It has gold tipped jacks, and is supposedly the best you can get.

But is it worth it? What do you think?

Also, this cable actually specifies the directing of signal travel. I.E.-- They make a distinction as to which end is supposed to be plugged into the instrument's output, vs. the amp's input. I have never heard of such a thing. All these years, I have always arbitrarilly selected the "travel direction" of my cable, and I never thought it mattered much. Have I been wrong all these years, or with most instrument cable it really doesn't matter?

Finally, with keyboards that have a dual output [*RIGHT *LEFT (MONO)] set up, is it really advantageous to run two cables each for a separate channel, for max. sig. output; or just one cable to the "MONO" jack will give me just as much signal output power?

I used to have a cable that said that when I played electric guitar, (Planet Waves, cost £20), I can't see how it works....it's just a big bunch of copper wires with two jacks on the end isn't it?, to me the only thing that would make a difference is the degree of shielding and quality of components and construction as well as the length of it. It further interested me when one of the dogs chewed it up and I couldn't see any difference between the connections at the two ends......

But I'm no electrical engineer so I could be wrong.

Only Eric Jonson can hear any differences with cables,he has bionic ears that can tell if a brass or silver jack is plugged in!

I've always been told to buy the best think quality hi-copper, oxygen free cable, I could find. YOu can hear a difference with some cables but it might just be down to the amout of resistance they generate between you and the amp. I think it depends on your entire set-up, your pickups, your amp, the guitar pots ( 250k or 500K ) etc etc.

These one-way cables seem like a great marketing ploy for someone to make a packet! THey might have some purpose, but then again. Wouldn't a Diode do this job effectively ??!
