Got a new amp on Friday Jan. 16th!

When our band gigs, we play mostly small venues, where space is at a premium. I can't always bring my speaker/amp-head combo, which is two separate units. (Too much to fit in the car).

And I'm tired of playing out of our guitarist's extra amps, because keyboards just don't sound good through guitar amps, no matter how in denial I am of that fact.

So I finally broke down and got one of these:

A Roland KC-550 self-contained unit.

With a 15 inch woofer and 180 watts of output power, I will finally have bass and all around sound that I can hear, without being drowned out by everyone else. emoticon

Has anyone here had any experience with the Roland KC series amps (either 300's or 500's)? If so, have you been happy with it?

Jon's Hammond through the marshall stack on Machine Head sounded pretty damn good to me.

Yes, but let's consider some real important factors there as well:

First, he amped up the output power from the organ itself, so that it had a stronger signal coming out of the C3 than my BV can achieve. And certainly more than my Roland VK-7 organ synth can achieve.

Second, he's going into Marshall fullstacks that are as tall as him, and he's got them side-by-side stacked two high, up to about 12 feet above the ground! They're daisychained to each other and there's probably an additional preamp between the Hammond and the Marshalls. Add to that the fact that he may also have Leslies miked going into the Marshalls also, and finally that part of that sound package may also go into the house PA.

On Machine Head, the Hammond had electric piano overdubs underneath to give the sound firmness and clarity on certain passages.

No, what my guitarist loaned me on New Year's eve was a Marshall amp that sits on the ground about 2 and a half feet high and has a lot of mids and highs, but no substantial lows. Add to that the fact that the amp has been dropped, the wires split and broken away from their speakers and then "McGyvered" back together again. Not the most ideal of situations!

And finally I was playing not through the Hammond, but through my digital organ keyboard, which is notorious for low signal output. Not a good match in my specific situation.

But I agree that the full sized Marshalls are out of sight, and I in no way meant to diss the Marshall name.

Sorry...
I was just commenting on your generalisation.

I realise that we are not rockstars and we all have bugets which we have to stick to. Hence, we cannot afford full size Marshall Stacks.
