Sorry I am not hip on this Computer Lingo but what in the world are Avatars?

Heard the term before, never really knew what it meant

A picture or image under your user name, every time you post! For the uglier members like me, it could be an album cover or a bit of original art... emoticon

Why not avatars? Doesn't really matter who's thinking that he's ugly or who believs to be a model...

I reckon they should be enabled for a few days and see how it goes.

These were actually the first days. We got complaints so they were removed.

Complaints were caused by the size of the avatars. big avatars ruined the forum's layout.

Just enabling the "Use the Resize user avatars (personal icons) feature:" option in the administrator's "control panel>set misc options" would be enough to keep things in order (every avatar will show up im 60*60 size)

But that will not change the main problem, which is the filesize (IMO). Downloading a worthless graphic used as avatar, with the size of 100 kByte, is not something I find amusing.
In the beginning I used to browse some of the Runboard (Akheva) boards, but has stopped because of large avatar filesize and annoying images in the sig.

Of course I could always set my browser up to reject images from runboard.

It seems to me there's plenty of space for a nicely sized avatar under the name/info, a picture not too big not too small.

Plenty of room there is, the problem is 100+KB avatars.
