Re: Cover Songs
Something from Blue Öyster Cult, like Godzilla or Hot Rails to Hell.

Re: Cover Songs
It would help if you could give us an idea of what would be possible first. How many people are in the band and what they play?, what styles can your singer do and what kind of range does he have?.

Re: Cover Songs
I am a bass player similar to Roger Glover (except not as good). I generally enjoy doing blues/hard rock, but can pull out the funkier stuff.
Our guitarist is into similar sort of stuff to me, he generally likes a heavier (Metallica like) sound. He is also heavily influenced by Hendix.
Drummer can play anything. He is great. He is also a bastard. Will be replaced as soon as we can find a replacement.
We don't have a permenant singer, and we either gig as an instrumental, playing Lazy and a couple of Originals (many of which are screaming out for lyrics), or we grab an available singer from another local band, and play a gig off a 2 hour rehersal.
Our instrumental gigs aren't to bad, but we are yet to find a singer who can get the hard rock sound.
Try suggesting songs that are instrumentals or could be converted into instrumentals, or good songs which have poppy singers (no slaves & masters though please).

Re: Cover Songs
How about Hocus Pocus by Focus? (without the yodeling or flute, unless you have a flautist?)
Jessica by Allman Brothers Band
The Cream version of Crossroads is pretty good as an instrumental.
Easy Livin' by Uriah Heep seems to work quite well as well and gives you a chance to show off on the bass.
And maybe Something by The Beatles.
That should keep you busy for a while.

Re: Cover Songs
We've just started doing Hideaway - Freddie King classic - pretty simple blues sort of thing with a recurring theme - I notice The Hoochie Coochie Men opened with it but I haven't heard their version yet.

Hope you're not going to do a 'Paicey' on him and send him out for cigarettes while you audition his replacement
Depending on the availability of a singer.... some of the good blues stuff from Green Bullfrog? (Xando was doing 'I Want You' from that a few months back...)
For instrumentals..... Difficult to Cure? Wring That Neck? One trick is to pick one that everybody knows (ie Beatles, Hey Jude, Day Tripper whatever) and get the audience to do the singing for you.

Re: Cover Songs
One of my favorite cover tunes I used to play when I was in a band was, "Day of the Eagle" by Robin Trower. Pretty easy to play and can be played very heavy or more bluesy.
