Celebrity screen names
I don't know about you, but it kinda bugs me that some posters here like to call themselves, for instance, Jon Lord, when quite obviously they are not Jon Lord.
I realize these people aren't trying to pass themselves off as members or ex-members of Deep Purple, but it could become an issue one day. Furthermore, wouldn't it be sad if Jon did want to join one day and was told his screen name had already been taken? ;^)
Variations of song titles or anything else you can think of is pretty cool, but can we dismiss with using the band member's own names?

Re: Celebrity screen names
No disrespect to the people using the names but I agree.

Re: Celebrity screen names
I agree, Dash be shouldn´t named after the famous writer David Meadows who is owner of this site: http://www.heroes.force9.co.uk/.
Also if the real Ramshakle Man comes along and tries to log in he can´t, as his name is given away. Also when Blackers latest wig comes along, should it really log in as RitchiesHair2?
Nah, just kidding!
Seriously, I don´t see a problem. If some one would ask SonOfAlerik, why he quite Purple he wouldn´t seriously go out saying:"Because they´re all dick heads, yes you got me!"
Also, do you think Jon Lord would log in:
1. Would it really have to be his real name(Eddie Hardin´s name was in the end: Oscar or something like that).
2. Or would he be able to convince anybody it was really him?
If we had to block celebrity names, in case the celebritys themselves might to log in at some day, the logic consequence would of course be that any of them would have to write an e-mail to Niko, Rahul or me first, in order to get allowed to take his personal name as screen name to post here. And, hey we´re not that famous, yet!
I don´t think it´s a real problem, as long as I don´t log in and think I´ve found myself in the premiere of the latest James Bond movie!
But thanks for the interesting thoughts, though.
cheers,
Milan

Re: Celebrity screen names
There is also the concern that unsuspecting journalists will look for info here - yes, journaists do check out forums and chat rooms to get "the people's opinion" on something - and they see Jon Lord posting so it must be Jon Lord's opinion.
I maintain it's a bad idea that undermines the seriousness and integrity of this forum.
If for instance Jon really wanted to sign up, then I think he would be very understanding that you'd want to check his identity - and it's easily done.

Re: Celebrity screen names
I agree with Rasmus. The journalist angle is actually serious. Some of them are very lazy (just like anybody else ) and it's easy to base a story on an Internet rumour without checking where it really came from.
If the real JL turns up, I'm sure he won't use "Jon Lord" as his screen name, but don't you think he'll be a bit bothered that somebody else is?

Re: Celebrity screen names
Yes I have to agree, though I admit to using a celebrity name before in a past life, I can see the possible implications

Re: Celebrity screen names
I'm with Rasmus, David and others on the "no Celebrity screen names" policy here, unless - of course - a true celeb' should want to sign up with his/her own name.
I remember Rick Wakeman once saying he was checking out an online forum and was surpised to see that 'Chris Squire' and himself were already there and that's why he hates the internet!

Re: Celebrity screen names
Okay, we can arrange something. But right now we´re talking about one person. And honestly, I don´t want to be who´ll have to tell.
