Re: Before I Forget

I thought it was Ashton until I read the liner notes, they sound very similar on that album.

I'm starting to wish I copied it before I sent it off but "feed the artist" I suppose...

I was in the shop where I bought it on Monday and there was another copy out, one of them's obviously a Jon Lord fan.

Although its been a while since I listened to it, I think Jon Lord mentions in the interview (or mentioned it elsewhere) that he has a love of gravelly-voiced singers, hence people like Ashton and Gantry, plus in later years, Miller Anderson, all singing on his solo albums.

Miller's voice reminds me of David Coverdale's.

Oh yes, I thought it was bleedin' obvious actually !emoticon I haven't heard that much Miller A. stuff apart from "Pictured Within" but there's a bit during that song where he sounds just like a crooning Coverdale ("...there are dragons I have slain...".) I wonder if Jon ever considered David to sing it, I can just hear it.

Re: Before I Forget

Well I have about the most(sessions excluded) where Coverdale sings and have seen him once live. Miller Anderson I´ve seen live twice, so maybe I´d say that as well if I had only that line from PW to judge.emoticon

Re: Before I Forget

When I saw the Concerto performance in Mexico Ian Gillan sang PW and funnily enough
since you guys are going on about the similarities in MA and DC,Gillan sounded
dead on like Anderson,I'm talking uncanny.
When I first listened to the PW album I remember saying that MA sure resembled Gillan, hhmm go figure.

Sounds more reasonable than you probably think.emoticon

When I imagine Gillan singing in his low key voice(in the condition it was in in 99/00) to the piece, I think there can be a striking similarity to Miller´s voice.

However, Miller is for sure a firstrate musician when it comes to british blues music and that´s nothing like Gillan and Coverdale(neither better nor worse, just different.emoticon).

When I first heard Pictured Within I thought, that this song would also have been great for Ian Gillan, because Miller Anderson's singing there reminded me of Ian...
