Re: Rage against the Barnes

I never knew they considered Barnes as a singer for DP, my goodness. Anyway, apparently Lord likes Barnes on WABMC - he says so on the WP DVD. Can't say I'm surprised, he seems to have a tendency to swoon by strange voices - apart from Vicki and Sam Brown, of course.

Re: Rage against the Barnes

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I honestly thought that Barnes did a more than adequate job on "When A Blind Man Cries".

His voice oozes of raw emotion, energy, and power. Sure, not to the same degree as Ian Gillan, but then again, Gillan is one-in-a-million. Just because they can't genetically reproduce IG's DNA, doesn't mean they should just scrap the whole song, and not give anyone else a chance at singing it. Life is full of examples where the imimitators are not quite the same as the originators, but that doesn't mean that the rest of the world should just lay down and die, and not take a risk and give it their best shot. So he's not [sign in to see URL] so what!? It was very unlikely that JL was going to get IG to quick fly down to Australia to join the H.C. Men, so he went with the next best guy. Besides, from what I understand, Jimmy Barnes is sort of a folk hereo, or rock legend down in Australia, so he was probably a good choice for the venue. At least he got up there, I could tell it was the same song, Lord seemed to like it, and in the end, a more than decent DVD was the result.

Man oh man, how do some of you guys get up in the morning unless you all got something to complain about? emoticon

I agree as well. I also like the new audio clip of the Morse/Daisley and Barnes. The guy has a good rock and roll voice, kinda reminds me of Brian Jonson but with better clarity. The WABMC version is also very good. Not everyone can sing like Ian. Jimmy's good at what he does.

What Jimmy Barnes did on WABMC and during his guest appearance on Speed King (2001) was not my cup of tea, but I've seen him live in 1995 and there he was very good. The clip of In the name of god sounds good, too...
