Re: Oslo

Fine review eiric! I totally agree it was all splended. Those guys were sending great wibes out in the audience, who gave in return and it worked out very well. It's really a long time since I was at a concert with any artist this proffesional, relaxed and entertaining. No room for a boring second in there. One of those nights when two hours passed like 45 minutes.

Those two impressing me most was Gillan and Airey. Gillan cos his voice sounded incredible. He wasn't pushing himself to the limit as he often did before, and rarely succesfully I'd say throughout the eighties, instead he was now pulling off a loud, carrying and unstrained vocal. Purple velvet! emoticon

Airey was still the greatest surprise to me. I know him mostly from his time in Rainbow, and I really like what I hear on ))), but even took another great leap towards a classic purple member in my book this night. With his own sound, not Jon Lords, and ditto own style he managed to draw a fresh purple carpet all over the background. He was fresh, inspired, almost bubbling and yet cool. He knew how to connect with the audience, and filled his own boots with self confidence and deep brilliant purple musicianship!

Steve Morse was closest to a let down. He did an awful lot of great things, and did never wibble himself outta context and taste, but still there's like something is kinda missing, and I think it is his ability to really the RIGHT note, the magic note, the note that make you shiver. Sorry to say so, but again nobody does that like Ritchie. At least Steve Morse doesn't. But by all means, he's good, he's entertaining, and he fits perfect with the athmosphere in the band. And he know how to play his 'Smoke'!

Highlights of the show, to my ears:
*Hush - my goodness gracious, it's still their best number!
*Every tune from ))), fresh & ass-kicking!
*Airey solo spots, Bach, van B, Grieg and Star Wars emoticon
*Perfect Strangers, Strange kind of woman, Space Truckin and Smoke
*And as a desert, album version of Haunted when it all was over. Very tasty!

There are plans for another album for next year, according to Roger. I look forward to it, and to see Purple on tour again! emoticon

I don't really like to say this, cos it doesn't sound good to my own ears, but to be perfectly honest I thought Well Dressed Guitar (in other words Steve's solo spot) was the best he did all night. emoticon / emoticon
