Re: Helsinki anybody?

Hi, I'm new to the board. I was in Helsinki too, and I thought I should write about that.

Uriah Heep were great, I had never seen them live before and I regognized only few of their songs. It was really a trip to the seventies. I only feared that the drummer would get a heart attack at any moment... I think they were surprised how well they were welcomed. I think the vocalist was very good (getting better all the time as the gig was moving on). Mick Box was doing those mysterious signs in the air all the time, the band was looking very happy. The hammond man's playing reminded me of Jon Lord in the In Rock era.

Because Uriah Heep was so good, I began fearing that they might outplay Purple, but happily I was wrong! As Highway Star began, it was a party from that on! The place was booked full, there were people of all ages, not so much rock-style people as usual. Funny, there were some middle-aged women just beside of us (some 5 meters from stage) and they were holding their ears and looked like was very painful all the time, I thought that either they should get some ear protection or go to hear some tango, it's a rock'n'roll gig! The new songs were also great, but of course they didn't so much crowd reaction as the classics. Roger Glover really, really shined through, his inline stuff were just in front of us, he played so great! (I almost got his plectrum, but someone took it from my hands!). Paice was great, it was easy to compare to Heep's drummer, who was some kind of stiff, Paice was fluid! Gillan was great, I like his british voice, especially his lower register. He can't scream he used to be, but it doesn't matter to me. I think they should lower the songs a little, so it would be easier for him to sing the songs as a musicians' opinion... Airey was good, but I think he's not at the same level as Lord; Lord had more melodic and tasteful playing, but it was OK, he was also too low in the mix. The only thing that wasn't my cup of tea of Morse. The man can play, but why does he have to play so fast the same scale excercises over and over again? He showed some taste in his solo spots, he played them beautifully when he slowed down. OK, I like Blackmore, but I'm always open to new ideas and styles. I also liked when he used less distortion, it gets messed up when you use so much distortion. But overall, very good gig indeed, I feared beforehand that they might be too old, that it might be embrassing, but there was energy and happiness, but I still miss Blackmore, because now I think they lack mystery and tension.

Uriah heep was very good like you said.
But i was disappointed that they didn´t do any newer songs they have..
Like Bad bad man, Rough justice, Rich kid great songs and i was sure they play those but no!
Yes i think too that Blackmore was very important influence of those great songs in the early days..
But i think Steve Morse did make those again alive his style of playing those..
I just love to heard old songs performed by Morse.
But of course i watch videos and dream i would some day see Ritchie with purple or rainbow..
Well like Roger Glover has said "It dosen´t matter if fans think that Ritchie was purple and should never replace"
and that "If people like Morse it´s great too"
I think they might get few more fans due Morse in the band.
And old fans never leave their band, they still listen old albums..
If you guys no what i mean emoticon
