Come Hell or High Water

I'm thinking of buying it on DVD. Is it worth getting? Why? Is Deep purple and good form?

C'mon...you've got to get this one.

On this one DVD they've captured years of conflict all put into one moment in time.

The rest of the band, via the interview cut scenes, let their frustrations out for all to see.

It's the perfect document to mark the end of that era.

As for the performance, I think there were some real high points. Even Highway Star, which is where things fell apart right off the top, is interesting because of what was going on.

But as someone who has never seen the band live and only in the few available video concerts, I don't have much to compare it to.

Plus, I never liked Anyone's Daughter until I saw them perform it during this show, so that was a high point for me.

It's worth it just for the water incident alone. emoticon

It's primary appeal is as a historic document rather than a concert, (IG's voice was in shreds and he absolutely murders CIT), but it has it's moments and even though CHOHW isn't the very best example of it, Ritchie's playing on TBRO tour is widely regarded as his best work of the reunion.

I have some fine examples of Ritchies playing from that tour, but the only thing he prided himself on was his sound, much cleaner than any of the reunion tours.
There is no way he(played)better than he did on the 85 tour though...no way!

I'll have to take your word for that, you're probably right but the only stuff I've seen from that era on New, Live & Rare is sometimes downright lousy and I've never heard any particularly high praises from the same time before.

I forgot you hadn't seen them way back then,my mistake, and your right, there aren't very many fine examples to prove how on fire he really was on that tour,NLAR certainly doesn't do him any justice.

Yep, this DVD is duty for fans!!! It´s not good performance, but it´s one of last Ritchies concert with DP and one of last MK2 shows!

Highlights: KAYBD, PS, CIT (it´s my opinion), Anya, TBRO, band in the great form

Lowpoints: Highway Star, Smoke On The Water (really boring version exclude sing-along-part), Ians hoarse vocal (hughest lowpoint of this DVD!)

His vocal performance was no worse than Blackmores playing at that show, they both
had a fair night, could have been better,
Lord was the savior who stole the show.
