Total Abandon Review

I trust you all had a happy, tasty & very safe Thanksgiving holiday! Mine was wonderful capped off by viewing the DP live in OZ tour from '99. I enjoyed it tremendously....there were many songs I haven't heard before....most likely from the MKIIb albums....and they don't sound half bad. I enjoyed the behind the features shots as well and the interview with Gillan, Glover & Morse at the radio station taking calls and some archive footage of MK II, III as well as still photos.

I'm glad I rented this...great viewing. Now if there was some vintage MKII video out there.... emoticon

Only one song from mk2b times. Perfect Strangers.
The other new ones are from Purpendicular and Abandon.

Thanks!! Hmm....must listen to samples of those 2 albums..... emoticon

Other observations about the DVD:
The interview on Australia TV with the host was so funny...he seemed interested in the "behind the scenes" stuff...or backstage/road antics.....so they were a drinking band as opposed to a drugs (except for the "hippie" Roger Glover...LOL!!!)
And Ian had a nice time with a young lady behind the stage or on the staircase during one of RB's looooong solos......I couldn't quite understand what the interviewer was saying about the stage & some object on the stage...Ian said the band weren't allowed to move it or something to that effect...

Steve Morse seems like quite a nice fellow! I didn't realize Jon Lord was so tall....he looks like a Lord of a manor or such....awesome keyboardist!!!

That was a great DVD....I might rent the EP version of MK II (only 3 song though so that sucks but.....)

...rent that EP and you will be on your way to seeing vintage mkII footage, this DVD contains rare footage of them.(No No No is stunning)
There is plenty of other mkII video material out there, you just have to do the clever research, but it isn't in abundance.

I think you may be talking about the grand piano which they were not allowed to remove so it was covered with a tarpaulin. It was perhaps just as well that Jon did not decide to uncover it and start tinkling, though then again perhaps not.

Re: the grand piano, maybe that was it...it was to understand the interviewer at times and, to me at least, Ian appears to mumble at times so it's difficult to understand him.

I'd love the question/answer session at the radio station with Roger & Steve...seemed like a lot of fun!

Most definitely will check out the EP....

You know what would be the perfect DP DVD? One that covers their entire history from beginning to present...include interviews, live performances, et. al. of ALL the DP incarnations....Total Abandon was over 3 hours of coverage.....so I'm sure a lot about DP can be covered in that time....though...considering the history....more time may be needed. emoticon

...there is a better discription of the piano thing,in the Come Hell Or High Water DVD,which you really need to see,I can't say there are too many better Purple DVD's on the market.I wasn't much impressed with it,but the production value makes it essential.
