but i dislike the diddly-diddly intro to Anya. Steve goes too much over the top. i like the Jon-Blackmore version better but Steve's solo on CIT is stunning!

Re: Bombay dvd

I was in Fry's Electronics recently here in LA and I went to check the DP section of the DVD's. I was expecting zero DP product there, or perhaps something really lame like a bunch of those lip synch videos, but low and behold there were quite a few DVD's there, including Bombay. I will have to get it.

Re: Bombay dvd

The good things about the DVD certainly outweigh the not so good. With a few exceptions, Gillan sounds good. I like the way he mimics Steve's guitar on the "I get high" parts of WFT. Way better than the guitar/vocal duel with Ritchie which he wasn't able to do anymore. Steve didn't wibble too much. He goes overboard in a couple of places, but when he sticks to the song at hand, he does a nice job. The band sounds pretty tight. Gillan runs around and looks like the Gillan of old much of the time.

The video really suffers from poor editing. There were lots of cameras, all operating at the same time. The choice of what to show where isn't so good. There must be lots of footage hanging around that would be better suited for inclusion than what we got.

I have never liked the newer way they do SOTW and BN. BN has some of Gillan's weaker moments on it. They could make "Smoke" better by doing similar to the way it was done on MIJ. Ditto BN. I don't think much of the way Morse does Smoke. I like the way Steve Morris did it with Gillan way better. Both tunes need to be taken back to their roots. WABMC is real good until the end when IG drags it out too much.

The mix leans too much on Gillan and Morse. The rest are too much in the background, so to speak. It could use more Lord, especially.

Either way, it is a good video of a good show. I enjoy watching it, especially when I am riding my bike on the wind-trainer during the colder months. I time my ride to the songs and I never tire of it. To me, that is the mark of a good video.

Don't expect too much professionalism regarding the camera work,it disappoints sometimes.

To be honest I don't especially like musical dvd's.I like to make my own pictures when I hear an album, so I'll probably do like I do whith other dvd's, watch it once or twice and then just listen to it with the TV off...
If there was a Cd of that show, I'd be perfectly happy with it.
Of course, that doesn't work for Cal Jam
