What is The Best Purple Ritchie DVD??

I own CHOHW and LSO, as far as live Purple Ritchie.

If you wanted the best Purple Ritchie performance on DVD, which to buy??

Where the hell are the Rainbow DVDs????

LSO is with Steve Morse and I´m sure you know that. I guess you acutally meant Concerto For Group And Orchestra 1969.

Yes, thats the ticket emoticon

I feel bad for some our Purple people here. I hope if your missing one, theres a DVD under your tree.

More so- I wish more titles were availible on DVD.

Glenn Hughes and Blackmore/Rainbow DVDs are non-existent. emoticon

Glenn Hughes just announced he's shooting his first DVD in January. It will be a regular live show. Another Blackers era DVD comes out shortly the 30th anniversary edition of Mk 3's CAL JAM appearance. It seems to me it's a total shame there isn't more Ritchie DP DVD's out there. But now that I think about it, the black and white Machine Head era concert footage is suppossed to be out soon also. It would be great if something from the Perfect Strangers era would come out on DVD.But please not that godawful Paris concert where Gillan was sick with a cold....There's got to be dozens more better PS era concerts than that in the can somewhere.

On Paices' Not For the Pros', they have some very interesting footage...not best quality, but interesting. Alpine Valley '85 for one... ( Off topic, as it was Mk. Morse, they have footage from Brazil where the audience is f****** ROCKING! Is that on DVD?????)

I just read about Glenns' Jan.11 gig and wonder between him and Blackers, whats been the hold-up on DVD's????

I will buy the Cal Jam immediate upon release.

Alot of it is caught up in rights to the footage.
When their is a market for it,then it goes from there.

This is why there is so little if no Rainbow stuff.
As soon as there is money in it,the ball starts to roll.

Depends on what you're looking for. From Ritchie era Purple, pre-reunion there's not much stuff available officially really, both the Cal Jam and Scandinavia 72 DVDs out at the moment are bootlegs. You could go with the Beat Clup EP for a first taster of things to come.

Post-reunion I wouldn't go for CHOHW. A decent show for sure but hampered by the usual problems I'd hardly call it essential. 1984-2000 is a much much better offering although the picture quality is patchy in places (understandably so, taken from all sorts of different sources).

Steve era I'd have to pick Perihelion with Total Abandon a close second, TA has a better sound, pic quality and a more polished performance but lacks the former's loose attitude and great setlist. Oh, Gillan's better on Perihelion too (check the scream on Perfect Strangers!).

You should buy Cal Jam and Scandinavian Nights, they are good and, I think, available on DVD.

SN is great but I never really took to Cal Jam. Hughes's shrieking ruins it.
