Glenn and Stevie Wonder
I just picked up Stevie's wonderful album Songs in the Key of Life and can't help to notice the similarity in voices, at times, of Stevie and Glenn. Have they ever recorded together or met each other or anything? When I saw Glenn live he mentioned something about Stevie digging his music but I can't quite remember what it was.

Re: Glenn and Stevie Wonder
I seem to recall him dedicating something ("This time around"?) to Stevie on one of the Purple Mk4 live shows - sorry, can't remember which one - Foxbat maybe? I don't have it any more so can't check - but it does imply some kind of acquaintance, if not friendship .

Re: Glenn and Stevie Wonder
I think it's a case of admiration and respect for a truly great artist. Coverdale also held Stevie Wonder in very high esteem...this topic reminds me of a pretty good little anecdote...
" After 3 weeks in Munich, the group flew to Los Angeles where 'Stormbringer' was completed at the Record Plant. While they were there, David Coverdale sang the vocal on the album's closing track 'Soldier of Fortune'.Jon Lord contributed a moving choral passage on mellotron but recalls the night for another reason.
'David wanted the right atmosphere for that track and when he was doing the vocal Stevie Wonder - his all time hero - wandered into the control room with about six other people. David heard the noises but couldn't see who it was and he yelled out 'Whoever's in there - !@#$ off!' When we told him who it was he was shattered and he's never felt good about it since.'" - "The Illustrated Biography" by Chris Charlesworth

Re: Glenn and Stevie Wonder
I heard an old Stevie Wonder track on the Radio last Saturday, and he sounded just like Glenn. I think I might have to see if I can find some to listen to.

Re: Glenn and Stevie Wonder
I would have to say that Stevie would be Glenn's number one influence. But if you listen to any Al Green records, you can also hear that he sounds exactly like Glenn....Glenn copies alot of stuff from Al as well. I agree with you, whenever I hear Stevie stuff I think I'm listening to Glenn. Got to hear Glenn sing Al's Let's Stay Together, (well a verse and backups on it anyway) in March and it was pretty awesome.

Re: Glenn and Stevie Wonder
Glenn admires Stevie Wonder! So the non Rock-part of Glenn which is underrepresented nowadays has no bigger influence as Stevie Wonder. And btw Songs in the Key of Life is a phantastic album! dd

The other way around for me: When I hear Glenn I think of Stevie. Stevie is much more popular and you hear him on Radio or TV from time to time and he is in the business for a longer time, so Glenn reminds me of Stevie, not the other way round.
